This obscure “social” movie had Jeetendra, Vinod Mehra, Mausami Chatterji, Laxmi, Nirupa Roy, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Madan Puri, A K Hangal, Ranjan, Master Titu, Ranjeet, Bhagwan, Chaandrashekhar, Sundar, Jairaj, Shukla, Major Anand, Mukri, Viju Khote, Yusuf, Raju, Ratna, Madhumati Sharma, Uma Khosla, Manik Chaudhary, Master Laddoo, Chiku etc in it.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 32

Another date, and another look at our blog’s history. Ten years ago – well just a thought came to mind. If, say, we were more than two decades active with this blog, and then this idea occurred that we should start looking at our history, then guess, what would be the title of this series. 🙂 🙂 Nothing so straightforward as ‘Blog 10-Year Challenge’. The title then would be ‘Bees Saal Baad’. Sadly enough, there is no film in Hindi cinema history that talks something about a 10 year gap. 😀 😀
Coming to 25th May of 2009. Quite as regularly, six songs were posted that day. The films covered were
- Patita 1953
- Shabnam 1964
- Main Suhaagan Hoon 1964
- Ganwaar 1970
- Naina 1973
- Asha 1980
Of these six films, all but one have already been yippeee’d. The one remaining film is ‘Naina’ from 1973.

“Neelofar”(1957) was produced and directed by P N Arora for All India Pictures , Bombay. This costume drama movie had Chitra, Suresh, Nishi, Sundar, Shyam Kumar, Helen, Vimla, Amar, Vazeer Mohammad Khan etc in it.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
“Dil Ka Nazraana Le O Dildaar Le” – this was the debut post of the 1973 movie “Chalaak” which was directed by someone called RK Banerjee. All these years I had only heard this song. Thanks to the ongoing ten-year challenge series I landed on the post of the song which had been popular in the 70s and is still heard on Vividh Bharti (All India Radio), I learnt that it was a Kiran Kumar – Radha Saluja song, which movie etc.
I landed on that post because of this “Mann Gaaye Wo Taraana“. Now this is another song that was popular on the radio in those days and is still heard sometimes on radio. I learnt that this is a piano song with Alka at the piano and Kiran Kumar in a jeep.

Welcome all to this special occasion where we are now celebrating Fifteen thousand song-posts on the blog!!! My heartiest congratulations to Atul ji, Sudhir ji and our respected senior and other team members on the blog and to all of our readers and well-wishers of this blog.
Well, my ‘love story’ (‘Prem Kahaani’, pehle ‘affair’ likhnewaala tha, phir ‘relationship’, phir thhik karke ‘love story’ likha 🙂 ) with this blog started around 2009 and it was because of Sahir Saab’s song ‘Dil Karta O Yaara Dildaara Mera Dil Karta’ (which I was looking because it was in my memory and nostalgic for me). So, thanks are very much due to Sahir Saab and I thank him for that. (I am sure he is accepting it there 🙂 )

Blog ten year challenge (2009-2019)- Song number 20

Today (21 march 2019) is the festival of Holi. Indian festivals are based on Indian festivals and so they fall on different days in different years vis a vis Gregorian Calender). For instance, ten years ago in 2009, Holi festival had taken place on 11 march.
It is not possible to have Ten year challenge for Holi festival songs, because first, the festival falls on different days in different years of Gregorian calender (as discussed above). Secondly, one movie normally has only one Holi song. I have yet to come across a movie that has two separate Holi songs.

OK, wow, another gem from the radio listening days. And what a wonderful reminder this song is. The film is ‘Naya Kanoon’ from 1965, and Rafi Sb is accompanied by Asha Bhosle in this song. Given that Madan Mohan is the music director, I am a little surprised that Lata does not figure in this film at all. Eight songs in all, with four female solos, and one duet (this one) – all carry the voice of Asha Bhosle. Possibly this recording may have been done during the time when there was a stand off between Lata ji and Rafi Sb. Still surprising that Madan Mohan did not get Lata to sing even one of the solo songs. Or possibly, other reasons, circumstances may have intervened.

Ek kissa hai, Radha ka. There is a tale, of a girl named Radha. She was in her teens, ‘kamsin’ as they say in parlance – young and innocent in years; sporting dark tresses that reached her knees; her supremely fair and flawless skin as if made from milk; her eyes – bright, with a depth enough for a smitten heart to drown itself. She would come to the terrace to hang out the laundry for drying. Iqbal, smitten as he was with the beauty of this young lady, would wait everyday to fill his heart with her moving images. The fascination, the infatuation remained as it is, unexpressed – for he could never muster up enough courage to say or do anything to express his feelings. Fears and apprehensions of many kinds held him back. Radha, remained a puppy love dream – forever. But is sure did make a poet out of that obsessed heart that could not express itself to its beloved.
