Now, none of the regulars can say they have not heard this song. In a film that boasts of more than one song that competes for the title of the best song in the film, this song surely is one of the best songs in this film. Wow – that sure is saying something for the quality of songs of this film. In 1962, music director Ravi has been active as an independent music director for about seven years now, and he already has about 30 films behind him, that he has composed for. His films include such notable hits as ‘Ek Saal’ (1957), ‘Dilli Ka Thug’ (1958), ‘Ghar Sansaar’ (1958), ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chaand’ (1960), ‘Ghunghat’ (1960), ‘Gharaana’ (1961), ‘Modern Girl’ (1961), ‘Bombay Ka Chor’ (1962) and many more. And then in 1962, out comes this Shammi Kapoor, Shakila, Helen starrer called ‘China Town’ – and the popular response is “Baar Baar Dekho, Hazaar Baar Dekho”. Oh yes, the songs of this film – one just does not feel done with them, no matter how many times you have heard them.

The new year 2018 began yesterday. We started celebrating the birthdays of artists from the first day of the year itself, by discussing a Nana Patekar song. Nana Patekar is one of many artists who chose the new year day to be born. 🙂
As far as our regulars are concerned, they are not too far behind. They are just one day behind Nana Patekar. As many as three of our regulars, namely Pradeep Raghunathan, Peevesie’s mom and Sheela ji(wife of Avinash Scrapwala) are celebrating their birthdays today on 2 january 2018. We in this blog wish them all very happy birthdays.

Mohammed Rafi – ‘अ’ से ‘ह’ तक (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 7

‘ऐ’
“ऐ जान ए बहारां रूह ए चमन”
Truly vintage Rafi. A song that brings to mind the times and the era of gentle romancing, and the soft songs of love. In the voice of Rafi Sb, these songs carry a heartfelt emotion that conveys a genuine feeling of love. It is a wonder that this song has so far not made it to the blog already.

Missing Films of 1960s – 6
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Hmmm, that is interesting. As I review the list of missing films for 1962 prepared by Khyati Ben, then starting from ‘Baaje Ghunghroo’ (which was the last film we introduced in the previous segment of this series), I had to drop down to the seventh film below it (in alphabetical order) to reach a film for which songs are available. After ‘Baaje Ghunghroo’, the films listed are ‘Balidaan’, ‘Bapu Ne Kahaa Tha’, ‘Bijli Chamke Jamuna Paar’, ‘Deccan Queen’, ‘Durga Pooja’ and ‘Fakiron Ki Basti’ – six films for which songs are not traceable.
