It is undeniably one of the funniest picturisation of a funny song in the history of Bollywood movies. Kishore Kumar and Mehmood, two of the funniest men in Bollywood combine in this song, along with a support cast of Sunil Dutt, Saira Bano and others, and the result is a laugh riot.

“Gopi” was one of the last movies with Dilip Kumar as the hero. In this movie, Dilip Kumar sings a few philosophical songs. This song “sukh ke sab saathi” is perhaps the best known of the songs of this movie.

Here is a song from 1973 that is funny as well as serious, both at the same time. It preaches us the value of being content with what we have rather than losing sleep over chasing mirages.
Rajinder Krishan, as usual came up with wonderful lyrics containing simple words with deep meaning. Laxmikant Pyarelal compose a nice song, sung well by Kishore and Lata. Overall, it may have been considered as a timepass song in the context of the movie, but I think the message of the song goes beyond the scope of the storyline of the by now forgotten movie.

Kishore Kumar sang most of his earlier songs under the music direction of S D Burman. But he did sing under other music directors too. But as far as sad/ serious songs were concerned, most such songs of Kishore Kumar tended to be under the music direction of S D Burman and typically picturied on Dev Anand.
But Kishore Kumar’s prowess in singing sad/ serious songs was being acknowledged by other music directors too. And Kishore Kumar was getting chances to sing for himself in movies as well.

It is one of the most moving songs of all time. It was the first sad song that I became aware of as a very young child. I witnessed a real life situation in which two brothers had a fight. A few days later, the younger brother left the home forever, never to return. He had left a note informing his elder brother about his decision. The note also contained words of this song- “chal ud ja re panchi ke ab ye desh hua began..” Whenever I hear this song, I am reminded of that real life incident.

Boys have been wooing girls for many generations, and despite cultural differences, modus operandi remains the same across all cultures. It is the male who has to act, and the female reacts. And a fine delicate balance must be struck. The male should not be so shy that he would not even approach the female, nor should he be too crude to turn the girl off. The usual Indian way, to launch a trial baloon, and to test the waters to see that the conditions are favourable for the approach- it is the recommended way that still works, as it did 50 years ago.

A cute song from 1973. Rekha, a raw teenager was an ugly duckling and an immature youngster at that time, who was not expected to go very far in Bollywood. She would later turn over a new leaf in 1978. But that was far off in the future. This movie was only her third movie, and here she was paired with a leading actor for the first time. Her earlier two heroes were debutants Navin Nischol and Randheer Kapoor.
