Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 31
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Reuse phenomena is quite a prevalent feature in Hindi cinema. We are already at the 31st episode of this series, and I must say we have just scratched the surface. There are reuse songs, there are partial reuse songs, there are medleys of songs, and even in some cases, there is a wholesale reuse in the entire film. A great example is the 2002 film ‘Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar’. Bharat Shah, the producer of this film is an out and out die hard fan of Pancham Da, and this film showcases a dozen earlier hit songs of RD Burman.

I first met him on screen in 1971. The film was ‘Mere Apne’, a story of a destitute old lady fallen on to hard times, intersecting with gang wars between young street smarts. I had heard his name before. In 1968, when Sunil Dutt launched his younger brother Som Dutt via his home production ‘Man Ka Meet’, one also read in the news that another new face was being introduced – name Vinod Khanna.

Today (11 August 2022) is Rakshabandhan. This is the 15th Rakshabandhan for this blog. The first Rakshabandhan for the blog fell on 16 August 2008. That day saw the iconic Rakshabandhan song namely Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana (Chhoti Bahan)(1959) getting covered on the blog.
On those early days, only one song was discussed in a day. Subsequently multiple songs began to be covered daily. Festival days were no exception. So more than one Rakshabandhan songs were also discussed in the subsequent occasions.

There are some events in the blog that need human intervention. These are events viz century of posts, artists etc. Then there are events that happen without any conscious efforts on our part.
One such event took place just now today (25 January 2022). The blog just clocked 15 million visitors at around 16:15 IST on 25 January 2022. I was aware of this event approaching. I was not the only one. Some other keeneyed regulars had also noticed it. One of them (Mahesh Mamadapur) had guessed that the 15th million visitor would get clocked to coincide with 26 january, the republic day of India. But the visitors were in a hurry. They clocked this figure one day in advance! 🙂
