Raj Ratan is the name that I am not familiar with. This music director is making a debut on this blog today. When I came across this name as I checked on this song, it did not sound very familiar. I did some quick scanning of the Geet Kosh, but am not able to locate too much more work done by this composer. In the quick scan I did, I am able to pull up just two more films by him, and that too in the years far apart (‘Ramu Ustad’ in 1971, and ‘Madine Ki Galiyan’ in 1979). It appears as if he is a person who is active in the industry as an assistant music director, and has had an occasional opportunity to independently score music, as a music director.

This is the last song of Doosri Sita (1974). Quite interesting to see that the film has basically only three songs. Since one of them has three versions, a person watching the film would have the effect of listening to five songs.

I love to liken the journey of this blog to a non stop long distance travel by road. As long as the vehicle and the road are working smoothly, one tends to pass milestones after milestones in no time. “Doosri Sita” got released in 1974 and sank without a trace, taking with it the musical score. Only in the course of R D Burman revival, did the songs resurface again. I remember listening to them on radio in the late 70s and early 80s on Vividh Bharati. The name Doosri Sita, though never really registered itself in my mind.

Manoranjan (1974), Shammi Kapoor’s first film as a director, seems to have only four songs. That is a bit surprising for me. I’d expected it to have more. So this could be the last song to come in from this film.
