‘Chaahat’ (1971) was produced by G M Roshan and was directed by Moni Bhattacharjee. The cast included Mala Sinha, Biswajeet, Jeetendra, Mumtaz, Achala Sachdev, Asit Sen, Sundar, Mridula, Madhumati, Rupesh Kumar, Jhilani, Jayshree T etc. This was the only black and white film in the entire career of Jeetendra and by this, I presume that this film may have taken long time to complete.
It is a surprise as to why Jeetendra signed this black and white film when he started his career as a lead actor in a colour film, ‘Geet Gaaya Pathharon Ne’ (1964). I had recently read two interviews – one by Jeetendra and another by Mumtaz which give me an indication that Jeetendra may have signed the film, ‘Chaahat’ (1971) before the release of his debutant film, ‘Geet Gaaya Pathharon Ne’ (1964).

There were 3 films with this title, made in 1941, 1954 and 1964. The 1964 film is known to all as it had all top stars of that time, in lead roles and a Raj Kapoor touch. The 1941 film was a bilingual film , in Marathi and Hindi, made by Navyug Pictures, owned by the famous Marathi writer Acharya Atre and Master Vinayak.

First and foremost we shall be wishing our Sudhirji- The Dillwala Dilliwala; Atulji’s trusted lieutenant on his birthday. He has been a huge help to Atulji and that has ensured that the blog has had no dot days since 25th December 2019. Let us all wish this Atulite with lots of fun and music.”
This was the opening line of my post of the 2nd December 2022. For sometime now, the rate at which Sudhirji’s posts are appearing is less than a trickle. Hope he picks up the threads of all the series that he has made us addicted to. “Ram Jaane” when he will pick up steam.

The cast included Vijay Arora and Bindiya Goswami in the lead roles with the supporting cast of Rakesh Pandey, A K Hangal, Sulochana Chatterjee, Sudhir, Dinesh Hingoo, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu, Dulari, Bhanumathi, Jayamalini, Halam, Ritu Kamal etc. Bindiya Goswami made her debut with this film. The film was a remake of a National Film Award winner Telugu film, ‘Mutyala Muggu’ (1975).

The next song in the AB rare song series is “Khoye Ho Aakhir Kis Bekhudi Mein” by Asha Bhosle and Chorus. The song is written by Yogesh Gaud and composed by RD Burman. This song is from Asrani’s “Chala Murari Hero Ban Ne” (1977).
Details taken from earlier posts mention that this movie was produced by Surinder Kumar Sharma and directed by Asrani for Asrani enterprises, Bombay. Asrani had acted in this movie in the title role. The movie also had Bindiya Goswami and Simi Garewal in special appearances. Others in the movie were Helen, A.K.Hangal, Bunty, Keshto Mukherji, Satyen Kappu, David, Paintal, etc. The film had a long list of guest appearances by Ashok Kumar, Hema Malini, Leena Chandavarkar , Dharmendra, Aruna Irani, Premnath, Ajit, Harindranath Chattopadhyaya, Jankidas, Neetu Singh, Ranjeet, Nazir Hussain, Bunty, Amitabh Bachhan, Rishi Kapoor, Mushtaq Jalili, J.Omprakash, Sawan Kumar Tak and Shakti Samant.

Resuming the series on Asha Bhosle rare songs, I come to this rarely heard gem from the 1971 flick “Dost Aur Dushman-1971”.
It was directed by Chand for ‘Shivparas Productions, Bombay’. It had Shiv Kumar, Heena Kausar, Jayshree T., Sapru, Murad, Tabbassum, Kundan, Roopali, Uday Kumar, Neelam, Sunita, Joginder, Junior Mehmood and I.S. Johar.
