“Satta Baazaar” (1959) was a Nagina Films production. It was directed by Ravindra Dave and starred Meena Kumari and Balraj Sahni in the lead with Johnny Walker leading the supporting cast of Ramayan Tiwari, Asit Sen, Suresh, Uma Dutt, Narmada Shankar etc. Vijaya Choudhury played Balraj Sahni’s daughter Kala. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji and Hasrat Jaipuri, Shailendra, Indeevar and Gulshan Bawra were the lyrics in-charge. Hemant Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and Suman Kalyanpur were the playback singers.

Wishing all a happy Dassera. I know parts of India celebrated the festival on Sunday and parts are celebrating it today. I think that has something to do with the movement of the Moon from one constellation to another or mostly the phases of the moon which doesn’t necessarily follow the Gregorian calendar. Some of you would be surprised to see a ‘Sahir’ related post here today again, because we celebrated Sahir yesterday on his ‘Remembrance Day’ and paid our tributes.
But today’s day is also important for us. It the birthday of one of the founding members of this blog and our beloved Raja Saab. So here is wishing Raja Saab a very happy birthday and ‘many many happy returns of the day’ and ‘healthy, peaceful and ‘full of music- life’ ahead.

In this article, I am discussing a classical dancer for whom the dancing was her passion, be it in the films or on stages. Her face was familiar to me as I had watched some of her films long back. But at that time, I did not evince interest in knowing her name. It was only after I joined the Blog in 2011 that I came to know her identity through none other than our own Prakashchandra ji, the veteran of our Blog in identifying the lesser known film artists with a high success rate.
