hullo to all of Atuldom
Yesterday (13 august 2019) was the birth anniversary of our dear Sridevi, hailed as the first female superstar of Bollywood. I was not liking it that we had let it go without a post. Then last thing before I switched off for the day, I saw a song on some satellite channel and had my ‘eureka’ moment. I found a song from the later period of Sridevi’s career when she had started experimenting with the characters she played.

Naseeruddin Shah, in a chat with a newspaper journalist sometime in early 2014, had revealed that there were about 35 Hindi which have been completed in all respect but remained unreleased till that day. If the numbers are correct, it could be some sort of a dubious record for a Hindi film actor. But I am not surprised. Naseeruddin Shah has been mostly associated with the ‘parallel’ and the ‘middle of the road cinemas. And for such types of films, it is very difficult to get distributors to release the films.

The film was made by Vishnu Cinetone and the director was its owner Dhirubhai Desai, who became well known for C grade action / stunt and costume films, later on. The MD for this film was Kikubhai Yagnik. The lyricist was Pt. Gauri shankar lal ‘ Akhtar ‘. The cast of the film was, Anil kumar, Putli, Shaikh, Gulab, Anwari, Moosa Pehelwan, Urmila, Meher Sultana and others. There were 8 songs in the film, Names of Anil kumar, Meher Sultana and Urmila are given for 4 songs. The balance 4 songs remain uncredited in HFGK.

I simply love this app called YouTube on the internet, and when Rajaji reads this he will agree that YouTube is a lovable app. This app has a feature whereby after you finish seeing a video or song, it suggests similar songs which might match what you have just seen in genre etc. And it gives some very good suggestions.

In my last article, I had discussed Nagesh Kukunoor, a NRI and a Chemical Engineer from USA, who left his lucrative job there to become a film-maker. Somnath Sen was another NRI who, after working as a Software Engineer in the U.S., decided to become a film-maker.
