Today’s song is from film ‘Kaarwaan’ (1956), a costume drama, made by Shahkaar productions, Bombay. Produced by Dev Jolly, it was directed by Rafiq Rizvi – whose career as a director came to a close with this film. His 6 films began with ‘Waayda’ (1940). The music was by S Mohinder. The lyricists were Tanvir Naqvi, Pt. Bhushan and Saarshaar Sailani.

Peevesie’s mom is one blog regular who keeps in touch with me on phone almost on a regular basis. Nearly one month ago, she phoned to enquire whether my daughter was at Mumbai seeing that summer vacations had started in Mumbai colleges. So I informed her that my daughter, and also my wife, were on their way to join me for their respective vacations.
So it came as no surprise to Peevesie’s mom when my posts during the last month were reduced to a trickle.

One of the most iconic songs of Saigal Sb. A song that is a definitive representation of Hindi film music of the 1930s. That incomparable rendition by Saigal Sb under the music direction of RC Boral was recorded live for the film ‘Street Singer’ (1938). Recorded more than eight decades ago, this remains a signature piece for time immemorial. The vision of Saigal Sb, leaving his home, just carrying his harmonium with him, walking with a slow measured pace, and singing this thumri – it is one of the lasting images of Hindi cinema. ‘Daaku Aur Jawaan’ was a 1978 release. It was directed by Sunil Dutt and starred Reena Roy, Leena Chandavarkar, Bindu, Sunil Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Ranjeet, Om Prakash, Anwar Hussain, Kanhaiyalal, Asrani, Padma Khanna, Tun Tun, Sundar etc. Its music composers were Laxmikant Pyarelal and Anand Bakshi was the lyricist.
