Looking at the video of this song adds considerably to my general knowledge about movies. For example, I was not aware that Rajesh Khanna had worked in a movie called “Aurat”(1967) and that too opposite an actress as obscure as Naazima. But then Rajesh Khanna himself was a newcomer those days.

“Light House” (1958) was a Sippy Films presentation. It was produced and directed by G P Sippy. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Johnny Walker, Nutan, Nigar Sultana, Master Pakkoo, Naazi, Rajen Kapoor etc in it.

Here is another song from Achhoot Kanya. This has to be one of the first bullock cart songs. In the early years of the past century, the hero and heroine did not, or could not get physical during romantic numbers. Despite that constraint, Ashok Kumar and Devika Rani share a lovely chemistry during this song. They sit close together, lean into each other and smile often.

R D Burman in 1970s was mostly known for composing songs that dazzled the senses. But he could also compose songs that touched the heart strings of the listeners. He tended to create the later kind of songs when he tied up with Gulzar as a lyricist. That way R D Burman was somewhat similar to Kishore Kumar who was known to be a happy go lucky character most of the time but when he produced movies, then most of his movies (with the exception of “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi”) were serious movies.

There have been several movies titled “Laila Majnu”. The movie of this name released in 1953 had very young Nutan and Shammi Kapoor in title roles. This movie also had some nice songs in it.

When I saw the lyrics of this song sent by Prakashchandra, who mentioned it as a rare melodious duet, I wondered what was this rare song. When I played this song, I immediately recognised this song as one that I had heard in the past without being aware of its details.
