TV serial Song number 5:
Our Blog has achieved a substantial milestone of completing 20000 posts with Sudhir ji’s post on a rare song, gham kaa banoge nishaana. When I had joined the bandwagon sometime in July 2011, the Blog had just completed 4000 songs in about 3 years. At that time, I had never imagined that the Blog would attain even a milestone of 10000 articles because it would have been a long haul during which the interest of the owner of the Blog (Atul ji) and the guest writers may wane because they may have to prioritise other important commitments. In the event, I have been proved wrong. Over the period of time, not only Atul ji has been keeping his interest in the Blog intact, but more guest writers have also joined the bandwagon making Atul ji’s posts appearing more as a ‘guest’ post while some of the guest writers have turned regular contributors on a voluntary basis. Furthermore, there is a phenomenal increase to the visitors of the Blog which is currently in the threshold of crossing 18 million in 18 years, that is, an average of one million a year.

The song is written by Pandit Narendra Sharma and is set to music by Rajkamal. The song is picturised on Aloka Mukherjee in the role of Subhadra.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-12
Today’s duet composition by Rahul Dev Burman is from the 1996 movie ‘Ghatak’ or ‘Ghaatak’. This movie was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi who also produced this movie for his home productions ‘Santoshi Productions, Bombay’. It was passed by the Censor Board on 01.11.1996.
In the last post under this series we had a song from the 1993 movie ‘Aaja Meri Jaan’. No movies with R D Burman’s music were released during 1994 and 1995. Though the movie ‘1942 A Love Story’ is mentioned as a movie of 1994, it was actually certified by the Censor Board on 31.12.1993. So it is obvious that it was released in the theatres in 1994. (However as per non-documented but strictly adhered 🙂 to SOP of this blog, we now need to correct the year of ‘1942-A Love Story’ as 1993 on this blog 🙂 ).
The cast of ‘Ghatak-1996’ included Sunny Deo, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Danny Dengzongpa, Tinu Anand, K.K. Raina, Anjan Shrivastava, Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Mamta Kulkarni, Mukesh Rishi, Ila Arun, Viju Khote, Harish Patel, Brij Gopal and others. Music for this movie was composed by R.D Burman and Anu Malik. Since R.D Burman passed away during the making of the film, Anu Malik was roped in to record the remaining one song for this movie. This movie has five songs and total six sound tracks including a ‘theme music’ track composed by R.D Burman. Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote the songs for this movie. Playback singers for this movie are Suresh Wadkar, Sadhna Sargam, Alka Yagnik, Shankar Mahadevan, Anu Malik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, and Asha Bhonsle.

The film was produced by Prabhat film Company, Poona. It was a Costume film, directed by Vishram Bedekar. The film had music by Master Krishna Rao Phulambrikar – an All India famous classical singer of his times. The 6 songs of this film were written by Qamar Jalalabadi aka Omprakash Bhandari. The cast of the film included Durga khote, Monica Desai ( younger sister of actress Leela Desai and wife of director Phani Mujumdar), Azurie, Sapru, Guru Dutt, Ram Singh, Urmila and many others.

Today’s song is from a social film Chand Tara-1945.
1945 was the year when the devastating II World War ended and the film industry heaved a sigh of relief. Many irksome regulations were relaxed. There was no force now to make Propaganda films for war, no shortage of Raw Film and plenty of Finance available through black money, generated during the war times. However, the year saw only 73 Hindi films made.
One of the most successful and famous film directors of Hindi films- Bimal Roy had a beginning in 1945. He was the director of the Bangla film “Udayer Pathe”, based on the story by Jyotirmoy Roy. It was remade in Hindi as ” Humrahi”. Both versions became Hit films. Thus a cameraman and editor Bimal Roy emerged as a big name in Hindi films. He got this opportunity as New theatres, Calcutta had dried up with its ace and famous directors, who left the company and had marched towards Bombay, even when NT was downhill. This film was also noteworthy because Tagore’s “Jana Gana Mana” was used in the film Humrahi-1945, which later on became India’s National Anthem (though it was written by Tagore to please and welcome King George V, on his visit to India in 1911).

The next song in my Asha Bhosle series is a song sung with Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, “Khan Chacha Khan Chacha” from the movie “Dil Diwana” (1974). It is written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Rahul Dev Burman.
“Dil Deewaana” (1974) was produced by Ramesh Bahl and directed by Narendra Bedi for Rose movies. The movie had Randhir Kapoor, Jaya Bhaduri, Komal(aka Poonam Sinha), Aruna Irani, Mumtaz Begum, Ratnamala, Durga Khote, Satyen Kappoo, Manmohan, Tuntun, Kamal Kapoor, Paintal, Pinchoo Kapoor, Kader Khan, Sharat Saxena, Rajrani, Ranveer Raj etc in it.

Gulshan Kumar was the producer of this movie which introduced his younger brother Krishan Kumar. Actress Tanya Singh (daughter of musician Ajit Singh) made her debut in this movie and Krishan Kumar got married to her later.
