Missing gems from 1950s-Song 2
———————————–

Today’s song is a Gem from the film Jhaanjhar-1953.

This was the first film produced by New Sai productions, a company floated by Chitalkar, Omprakash and his only brother Bakshi Ramprakash Chhibber (who took up the name ‘Pachhi’ later on and produced many films like Kanhaiya, Jaali Note, Naughty Boy, Mere Mehboob, Cha ch cha, Teesri Kasam, Around the world etc etc.). many people are under the misunderstanding that even Lata mangeshkar was a partner in this venture, But C.Ramchandra, in his autobiography mentions only these three names as partners. However, at the same time, C Ramchandra and Lata were partners in another company along with a man called P R Bhide, who cheated them later and also dragged both to courts. Kishore Kumar had made Anoop Sharma as the producer of this movie instead of himself for tax purposes. He had done the same for his previous production, viz. “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi”(1958) as well.

Hullo to all atulwaasis

A few days back our NAHMJI sent a mail on our email chain about a song she was looking for. As is our normal practice she had looked up for it first on our blog (I presume as that is also my method). Then she put out a look out notice for our diggaz to help her and the most unthinkable happened. Our guruji actually put up his hand to say he was sorry he could not help. But one thing is certain in atuldom, someone or other will come up to answer the question. This time it was Sadanandji. Kamathsaab thank you.

Shyamlal Babu Rai, who wrote endearing gems in the golden era of melody, such as “Bade Armaanon Se Rakha Hai Balam Teri Kasam”, and also popular hits for the new generation in the 1970s, such as “Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye, To Baat Ban Jaaye”, had started his career back in the 1946 with two completely obscure and now unknown films – ‘Double Face’ and ‘Jungle Ki Pukaar’.  Information about these films is not easily traceable, and neither have the songs of these films have surfaced so far.

Remembering Indeewar, song writer par excellence, on the anniversary of his passing away today (27th Feb).

Mohammed Rafi : The incomparable – Song No. 03
————————————————-

Here is an example of a typical filmy song. It has the correct amount of teasing, mischief and romance with confidence. And nobody, no singer atleast did this with the right balance as Rafi Sahab.
