There is no doubt one feels a sense of kinship and pride for the perseverance and accomplishments and bravery its people show on a near everyday basis. Today’s song is from film Shakuntala-43. This was the first film of V.Shantaram, under his own new banner- Rajkamal Kala mandir. The song is sung by film’s Heroine, Jayashree, on whom it was filmed also. The song was written by Ratan Piya ( I like this musical name, really !) and the music was by Vasant Desai.
The film was directed by Shantaram and the Cinematographer was his own brother V. Awadhoot.The cast of the film Shakuntala-43 was, Jayashree, Chandramohan, nana Palshikar, Nimbalkar, Zohra, Shantarin, Ameena, Vilas, Ratan piya etc etc.

Naseeruddin Shah, in a chat with a newspaper journalist sometime in early 2014, had revealed that there were about 35 Hindi which have been completed in all respect but remained unreleased till that day. If the numbers are correct, it could be some sort of a dubious record for a Hindi film actor. But I am not surprised. Naseeruddin Shah has been mostly associated with the ‘parallel’ and the ‘middle of the road cinemas. And for such types of films, it is very difficult to get distributors to release the films.

The MD for this film was Kikubhai Yagnik. The lyricist was Pt. Gauri shankar lal ‘ Akhtar ‘. The cast of the film was, Anil kumar, Putli, Shaikh, Gulab, Anwari, Moosa Pehelwan, Urmila, Meher Sultana and others. There were 8 songs in the film, Names of Anil kumar, Meher Sultana and Urmila are given for 4 songs. The balance 4 songs remain uncredited in HFGK.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 42

Though I have been discussing Hindi movie songs in the blog for more than a decade now, it is not as if I had watched too many movies during my “formative” years. I recall having watched a few movies in early 1970s, with the last of these movies being “Zindagi Zindagi” (1972) in 1972.
My movie watching spree began in 1978 (after six years) when I joined college and got “freedom” that I as a college goer was “supposed” to enjoy. 🙂 And I fully misused my freedom, by watching movies when I should have been attending my classes.

Today’s song is from film Shri Ganesh Mahima aka Shri Krishna Vivah-1950.
Mythological films have been my weakness from the beginning. When I was around 10-12 years of age, I would be a very happy, willing and enthusiastic escort to family elders-especially ladies, going for a Bhakti Pradhan film. What I liked in these films was the trick scenes and fantastic costumes. later on I realised these films also provided lot of religious knowledge in the formative years.

This is the story of a Telugu man born in Hyderabad in an upper middle-class Naidu family. He completes his schooling in a Boarding school in Yercaud. After graduating in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University, he proceeds to USA and completes M.S. in Chemical Engineering. He gets a good job in the USA as an Environment Consultant. So far so good. The boy has met successfully, the sequential schedules of most of the middle and upper middle-class families – Good schooling and college, higher studies in the USA followed by a good job there. The next in the sequence is finding a good bride for the boy to settle down and showcase him among the family and friends. But at this stage, there a break in the sequence of our Telugu man.
