Today’s song is from the film Dekho ji-47.

The film was made by Punjab Film Corporation and was produced and directed by its owner Wali Sahab. He also wrote the lyrics. The music was by Tufail Faruqi and his assistant Sabir Hussain ( 5 and 6 songs credited respectively).

Who will stay and who will migrate was hotly debated in the privacy of homes, studios and clubs. People looked at each others with suspicion. Muslims were worried about their safety in India, in spite of the assurances by Gandhi and Nehru.

And yet, once again, another melodious and enchanting song. And once again, from a film that one has not heard anything about. The film is ‘Surya Devta’ from 1969 – as obscure as it can get. I have not heard of this film or its songs, before finding them in the Geet Kosh.
