Sometimes the directors of Hindi films will put across really strange scenarios, that one does not really expect to see in the films, especially in the formula or near formula films that are a hallmark of the Indian film industry. Now, think of Helen, and the very first thing that will come to mind is a dance song. In a variety of dance forms, whether that be a folk dance (a handful), a classical (very very few indeed), a fun song (very many) or a cabaret dance (a huge number), when one sees Helen on the screen, she is singing a song, and dancing. It is another of my absolute favorite songs and movies. I actually have a superstition that if I see a Hrishikesh Mukherjee Movie on the morning of an exam or an important day, the day will go well. Golmaal(1979) is a movie that came regularly in the morning 6 am slot in SAB Tv and SET MAX while I was in school and thus went on to be a much by-hearted film. In fact I remember when my cousins were 2 yrs old and I called my aunt one day, she told me that they were watching this movie. I replied that I am extremely proud of her, she is giving them the right education and they will grow up to be like me. She laughingly said that then I will shut the movie right away.

His anniversary dates were nowhere near and I have not seen any of his films and video clips for a long time. As it is, my ‘area of operations’ on YT are mainly confined to the watching/listening of video/audio clips pertaining to the period between 1940-1960, straying sometime up to late 60s and most of his his songs does not fit in to my preference. Probably, this was a reminder to me from Sanjeev Kumar donning a white suit and trouser in true suspense film style echoing “old man, have a peep at me too sometime”.
