5th June is celebrated as ‘World Environment Day’ all over the world every year. The theme for this year is “Connecting People to Nature“.
I am approaching today’s post in a different manner. Instead of going into the details of the environmental agencies, their history and purpose, the significant environmental issues being faced by humanity on this planet, etc. I am thinking of our Hindi films and their music. The nature is so intimately connected herein. We cannot imagine our Hindi Film Music without ‘connecting with nature’.

Hullo atuldom
Hope all fine here.
Today (8 june 2017) I am posting a song which falls right in the category of “How come this is not yet posted?!?!” But that is how this blog of ours (Atul’s) is. Even after 13300 songs we still have songs for the “How come” category.

In my last two articles, I had discussed about the films of Mehboob Khan (as a producer as well as director) in combination with music director Anil Biswas. In the process of collecting information about the works of Mehboob Khan-Anil Biswas combination, I came across another unique association of Mehboob Khan with cinematographer, Faredoon A Irani. The uniqueness of this association is that all the films which were directed by Mehboob Khan (23 films during 1935-62) had Faredoon Irani as cinematographer.

Hullo to all atulwaale
I am desperately trying to stop myself from writing anything in praise of Sunil Dutt (6 june 1929- 25 may 2005). I am trying to avoid writing anything that is already written here on the blog or anywhere else in the cyber world.

In my recent article, I had listed the films from 1936 to 1942 in which Anil Biswas was associated with producer-director, Mehboob Khan under the banners of Sagar Movietone and later National Studios. Their association came to an end with the release of ‘Roti’ (1942). A news clipping in October 1942 issue of ‘Filmindia’ magazine revealed that on the eve of the release of ‘Roti’ (1942), National Studios was sold to K M Modi (I believe, he was the younger brother of Sohrab Modi) who was a film exhibitor.

Today’s song is from from an almost forgotten film of the Golden period- Jeevan Sathi-57. This particular song is a very melodious one which had been quite popular in those days. I was surprised how this song was not yet posted here so long. The song is sung by Geeta Dutt, written by Indeevar, it is composed by by a talented but a moderately successful composer- Bulo C. Rani.

The first song from the film CHAAND CHAKORI (1945), jogan banaa ke piyaa chhod gayo galiyon mein was posted on the Blog about 6 years back. Since then, no more songs from the film were covered in the Blog. In the write-up to the first song from the film, Atul ji had mentioned that very little information about the film was available online. At that time, I doubt whether any songs from this film was available on YT as I find that the first and the only song out of 13 songs from the film was uploaded by Atul ji on YT.

This article is the 13300th song post in the blog.
A century post – and a discovery of monumental proportions. Things cannot get more rare, and better, than this.
We are at a century marker with this post – 13,300 – thirteen thousand three hundred to be exact. Atul ji and I exchanged some thoughts on whether to hold back this important discovery for a bigger, more major milestone up ahead. But then we decided that the wait of some more months will be too much. Let us introduce this discovery at 13,300 itself, and then we will have a few more opportunities to bring on other parts, other songs of this discovery.

जब मैं छोटा बच्चा था, (and my, not just then. . . even now). . .
No, no I am not going to start a description of my ‘शरारती’ pranks and naughtiness. I am going to tell somethings about my favorite actor and songs; that my favorite male performer was Dev Anand. There was a charismatic attraction in his face, his smile with one out of line canine, his mannerism, and his style of dialogue delivery – all put together made for a striking package, that would steal hearts. I am talking of the time when films like ‘Baazi’ and ‘Jaal’ and ‘Taxi Driver’ continued to be popular in re runs, and continued to be discussed as iconic films. This popular set of films was shown more than once on TV, and it would be a gala Saturday/Sunday when a Dev Anand film was scheduled. Those were days when the weekly film shows were split across the two last days of the week. And needless to say, the break was very irritating. 🙂
