Indian film industry is one of the biggest film industries of the world-by way of number of films produced(together in all languages) and the number of people involved in this industry. There was some kind of a survey data published on an Internet site ( now defunct)a few years ago, which published a list of 7000+ names of actors and actresses in Hindi films from 1931 to 2000 AD. Dr Surjit singh ji put the list on RMIM forum and I copied it from there.

Today is world earth day. Google says so and has a special logo for it. On this occasion I thought that we can have an all time favourite though it is from a cartoon I am sure all of us enjoyed as little ones. Ok I admit in the 1990s most of us were not kids and our kids were infants. But I can safely say that all of us were fans of this song. It was written by The Gulzar – master of words when it came to songs for children; remember “Lakdi Ki Kaathi, Kaathi Pe Ghoda“? It was sung by Amol Sahdev who was a 10 year old back then. He is a trained singer who is himself now a father of a toddler. Vishal Bharadwaj was the music director.

This article is the 12000th song post in the blog.
The counter has been stuck at double one triple nine, for three days now. That, I am sure, will have beaten all the records in the books.

There was a time in my life when I thought no end about myself. Regarding bollywood movies of course. Then the bubble burst when I came across this blog a few little years back. Well the situation was that my Peevesie going through some songs which Atul had posted back then, and I fumbled on the tune even if the title of the song seemed familiar. Much like what happened a while back when Sudhir ji posted a song from the film ‘Wahaan Ke Log’ from 1967. The lead line in the song is “Hum Tujhse Mohabbat Kar Ke Sanam“. And I promptly said “Rote Bhi Rahe Haste Bhi Rahe” as the cross line. Only to discover a different and a (relatively) new song. (It is a different matter that my devar feels that I know all the bollywood songs recorded ever. HAHA!!)

As the readers of the Blog may have noticed, these days I have been selecting some rare songs of old Hindi films especially of the 1940s for posting in the Blog. Some of them have not yet found place in YT. In this process, I became aware of the names of some films for the first time. I also had the occasion to go through the star cast of many films released in the 1930s and 1940s.

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 27

When I got the mp3 clip of “nainan jal bhar aaye preet kiye pachhtaaye” of ‘Samrat Ashok’ (1947) sung by Binapani Mukherjee, I checked the song list for the film in http://www.myswar.com and found out that there was another more or less similarly worded song in the movie attributed to Amirbai Karnataki. I thought that this must be another version of the same song. However, I could not get the audio clip or mp3 clip of Amirbai Karnataki version of the song on YT or any other websites. So I wrote an e-mail to Shri Sudhir Kapur whether he had the required mp3 clip. I was fairly hopeful of getting the same from him since I knew during the Mumbai Gangout meets that he had a very large collections of mp3 clips of songs of Hindi films, especially of 1930s and 1940s. And my assessment was right. Within a few hours of receiving my e-mail request, he sent me the required mp3 clip of Amirbai Karnataki version of the song.
