Here is a song from film Sindbad the sailor-52.
The name of Sindbad will remind you the storybooks we have read in our childhood. Sindbad, Allauddin, Alibaba, Birbal-Akbar, Haatimtai, Gulebakavali, Vetal Pachhisi and many such books have entertained the growing children for many generations in the past. I do not know what today’s generation young children read. But then, do they read at all ? I guess these children see the stories on TV-not the ones I have mentioned here. Their Heroes are different.

Nightingale Noorjehan -9
———————————
I was searching for this song for long, as it was the only Noorjehan song from the 1946 ‘Dil’ that I had not in my ‘khajana’. I shouted on internet, hoping some music lover will come forward to help me. And pronto….. Our own Atul-ji, not only sent me the song, but also sent me the YouTube link where he had uploaded it. Soon, another Noorjehan fan and that too our own Vidur-ji sent me the MP3 song. So here I am with that song.

Mukesh and his Composers – 5
————————————
Remembering Mukesh (22 July 1923 – 27 August 1976) today (22 july 2015)on his 92nd birth anniversary.
The year 1958 was a turning point in the singing career of Mukesh. Though he had started his career nearly two decades back in 1940 and had some remarkable hits in late 40’s and early 50’s, his foray into acting-singing in the early fifties had some disastrous consequences which in my view affected his whole career in some way or the other. The first three posts in this series clearly show that his songs with those composers stopped sometime after 1949-50. And then there are huge gaps before he was called again by the same composers.

Nightingale Noorjehan – 8
——————————
Looking back to the last two posted Noorjehan’s song, I feel sorry for HER that she does not have any ‘fans’ left now. With not a single comment there I could hear her painful calling her ‘fans’ “Aawaz de kahan hai?” I know the minority who liked ‘melodious and heart-touching songs, is on the verge of being ‘extinct’….. but so soon?
Any way following Geeta, (not the person but the scripture) I should continue ….. (Maa faleshu kadaachana …)
The song under discussion is a joyful song about the travel on the old time smoking train (another extinct object!) Moti’s voice is heard singing solo, duet and brief joyful ‘aalaaps’.

Today’s song is from a ‘C ‘ grade stunt film of Master Bhagwan-Jigar-1949.
The word Jigar can mean Liver, heart, courage, dear, friend, depending on the context. Master Bhagwan- the name creates an image of a slightly bulky, smiling and jovial person doing a typical Álbela style dance.

Entertaining Sales Pitch Songs – 10
—————————————————–
[Note of Apology: This write up has been in the making since two nights, including the “telephonic interview”. Apologies that I was not able to post it before midnight yesterday. But then the thought comes – it is still 19th July somewhere in the world. Ah yes, our Khyati Ben in Los Angeles, USA, is still working through the 19th. So in a ‘relative’ way, this post is still on time. A brief summary of the celebration events covered herein – seventh anniversary for the blog, 11,300th song posted, and the completion of the planned ‘Entertaining Sales Pitch Songs’ series. Read on.]
[Note of Apology 2: With due apologies to Atul ji, for having taken some liberties in narrating certain aspects of his household. I am very sure the permission towards these liberties are/will be granted, even though the same has not yet been formally requested 😉 ]
Einstein has said, and he must have been quoted on this many million times by now, that ‘time is relative’. There are a variety of different explanations and discourses on this single statement, depending on the perspective or the branch of science or maths, or for that matter, any other subject, that one is considering. There is a very interesting anecdote connected with this statement. Once a newspaper reporter asked Einstein to explain in simple terms, what is the meaning of the phrase ‘time is relative’. And Einstein, without going into any mathematical or philosophical explanations, gave the following response. He said – consider the situation when someone is holding your feet to the fire. In such a circumstance, a passage of even 5 seconds would seem as if an hour has passed. Then again, think of a situation, when you are sitting and talking ‘sweet nothings’ with your beloved. Then, after an hour has passed, it would seem to you as if just maybe five minutes have gone by. That is what makes time relative. 🙂

When I started collecting cassettes in 1985, I was very crazy about purchasing of cassettes at regular intervals; I was always searching for songs of old films (especially of Rajesh Khanna films at that time).
It was my practice, beginning from 8th standard onwards that I would take up some part time job during my vacations which I would give up as classes would resume. I had taken up a part time job during the vacation period after class 12th as well, but unlike the previous years, I did not go back to my classes this time, rather I continued with this job since I was aware that I was going to fail in my exams.

July 18th is an important date in the life of atulsongaday.me. Actually it marks the eve of the birth of the blog itself. I wonder what must have been Atul ji’s sphere of activity on the day prior to this date in the year 2008 when the blog was launched. Last year on this date we were on a countdown to reach our song number 10,000. With this post, we stand at 11,295.

Today’s song is from film Khazanchi-58. It is a very interesting and foot tapping song by Asha Bhonsle-The Inimitable.
For senior readers of this Blog, the name Khazanchi may ring a bell and they may remember the iconic film Khazanchi of the 1941, made by Pancholis in Lahore. That film had changed the HFM for ever and freed it from the rut of Theatrical, classical, boring songs, which actually sounded the same despite being from different films !

Hearty greetings to all friends and readers for the gracious festival of Id today.
The days of fasting and penance have ended, and now comes the grand celebration of Id. Today is the first day of the month of Shawwal. Today is the day when festive spirit is at its most cheerful, the attire of the people is the finest, and more than anything, the bonhomie and the bonds of friendship are at their best. It is the time to leave behind any differences and the memories of any past offenses, to forgive and to forget the resentments. As the lines of this celebratory song emphasize,
ye wo din hai ke hans hans kar giley shiqwe bhula dena
agar dushman bhi aa jaaye to ye keh kar manaa lena
id ki shaam hai
Today is the day to forget the resentments with a smile
Even if an enemy comes face to face
Give a hug and reconcile, and say
It is the day of Id today
