During 1960s and 1970s, the quality of public involvement with movies and music tended to be of a higher level than what it is now. Movie magazines those days used to give reports on the progress of movies that were under production. Once the movies were released, magazines would give a summary of the story of the movies as well as their reviews. Not just that, books would be published that would give the detailed screenplay of movies.

As I see in the “some stats” page, Lyricist poet Majrooh Sultanpuri has 525 songs in the blog, which is the highest so far for a lyricist in the blog. The word “Majrooh” could not have been his real name. It is the “takkhallus” (Pen name) of the poet. “Majrooh” means injured/pained or a someone broken hearted and in pain. Others may have a different view of this words meaning, but I hate to go to online dictionaries to find meanings of urdu words. I would rather go by the feel.

I was at Jabalpur when this blog was started. After about 18 months later, I shifted to another -pur in another state and I was based there for two years. Now I have shifted to yet another -pur in yet another state.

“Kaun Apna Apna Paraaya” (1963) was a Golden Films Production movie. It was produced by Tony walker (Johny Walker’s brother) who also starred in the movie as Hero under the name of Vijay Kumar. Niranjan directed the movie. The movie had Waheeda Rehman, Vijay Kumar, Johnny Walker, Nirupa Roy, Tun Tun, Amar, Shammi, Dulari, Hammad, Sham Kumar, Dilip Dutt, Laxmi, Nasreen, Saudagar Singh etc in it.

When I saw the list of songs remaining to complete the score of films in this blog, given by our own in house encyclopedia, Deshmukh Sir, I was actually thrilled that one song from ‘Asli Naqli” was remaining. The song in question is “Laakh chhupaao chhup na sakegaa raaz ho kitna gehraa” is something I am familiar with and very fond.

It is often said that Hindi movie stories have little resemblance with real life, because real life stories always differ from the reel life depicted in movies. Still there are occasions when some occurrences in one’s real life may remind you of some movie.

“Taqdeer” (1967) was a Rajshree Productions movie about a family that gets separated from its sole breadwinner (Bharat Bhushan) and lives without him. Bharat Bhushan, presumed dead comes back many years later and finds himself a stranger in his own home. It was a moving tale which was nicelty picturised. The songs of this movie captured the essense of the movie wonderfully well.
