Welcome all to the 5200th offering on this blog. An enchanting journey that continues to grow from strength to strength, has reached another landmark today. It seemed just like yesterday that we hit the 5000 mark (it was on 13th November), and lo, we are already 200 songs even beyond that magic number today. Congratulations to all, and especially to Atul ji, for being the consistent driving force behind this effort. Besides being the 5200th post, this write up also celebrates the century of songs on this blog, by the music director Hansraj Behl.

When you seek to look for obscue songs from yesteryears, you often come across unheard of gems. Many a times, these songs are sung/ created by the usual suspects, but sometimes they are created by people we normally would not suspect of being able to sing songs, leave alone singing songs that can be regarded as outstanding.

24th december is a red letter day for Hindi movie music lovers. It was on this day in 1924 that Mohammad Rafi was born. We in this blog do not wait for this day to remember him, of course. This blog is 1260 days old and we have 1287 Rafi songs so far in this blog, which means that we in this blog remember him everyday by discussing on an average one Rafi song daily.

“Chunariya” (1948) is by now an obscure movie. What I know about this movie is that this movie had Wasti, Manorama, Pran etc in it.
I have discussed two songs from this movie in the past. Here is another song from the movie. This is a light hearted song where the lady is calling her beloved who for some reasons has become annoyed with her. And her beloved is no ordinary person. He has got a Motor ! And the Motor (Car was called Motor in Hindi movies those days) could well be a beloved possession of the man, so the lady gives “duaa” in the song that may his motor remain intact.

I have already posted a sweet sad song from the film ‘Chheen Le Azaadi’ (1947), “Champakali Hai Udaas”. Here is another gem of a light tete-a-tete between lovers. Words of this song are written by Pt. Indra, and the music is by Hansraj Behl.

Hansraj Behl made his composing debut in Hindi films, in the year 1946. As per records, his first film released is ‘Pujaari’ (1946). In the same year, two more films were also released with music composed by him. these are ‘Phulwaari’ and ‘Gvaalan’. Rare films in their own rights, and very little is known about them. This delightful song is from the film ‘Gvaalan’, sung by Zohrabai Ambaalewaali (or Zohrabai Ambaalaa).
