Hindi songs in Bangla Films: 26
—————————————-

Mumbai has been the leading Hindi film production centre in India ever since Dadasaheb Phalke produced the first silent film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913. After the release of India’s first talkie ‘Alam Ara’ in 1931, many more film production companies were set up in Mumbai, some of them owning the studios. The outdoor shootings, if any, in the initial stages of talkie films were done mostly in around Mumbai. It was quite natural that stories of some Hindi films would have Mumbai as the background portraying the many facets of the city. Obviously, in such films, there would be scenes from Mumbai and possibly one ‘Bombay-centric’ song.

chupke se kho gaya. . .

Searching through his list of songs, I chanced upon this gem of a melodious creation – one of those ‘love at first hear’ type songs that I have really come across after so many days. It has been sitting in my collection forever, and I pulled it today, looking for an unheard or less heard song to include in this post. The composition is quite atypical with a different sound structure attempted. A beautiful melody that I am sure you will also fall in love with.

Remembering C Arjun today, on the anniversary of his passing away (30 April, 1992).

During 1950s and 1960s, there were quite a few South Indian movies that were dubbed into Hindi. While dialogues were dubbed, original songs sung in the South Indian language were resung in Hindi.

“Aayi Phir Se Bahaar”(1960) is one such movie. It was a remake of Tamil movie “Raaja Raani” (1956). The movie was written by M Karunanidhi and directed by A Bhimsingh. The movie had Padmini, Sivaji Ganesan, S S Rajendran, Raja Sulochana, T A Madhuram, N S Krishnan, Rajgopal, Doraiswami, etc in it.

The Tamil movie had T R Pappa as the music ditector. When this movie was dubbed in Hindi, Vedpal Verma was tasked with recording songs in Hindi.

Hindi Songs in Bangla Films – 25

The personality I am going to persent in this article is one of the greatest exponents of Hindustani classical music. He has been often referred to as the ‘Tansen of the 20th Century’. He is also credited with creating an unique style of rendition with shorter ‘aalaaps’ and ‘vilambit’ (slow), greater emphasis on ‘taans’ and ‘sargams’ much against the likings of purists among the Hindustani classical vocalists. He did these improvisations to make his presentation interesting to his audience. This style of renditions was later to become an integral part of Kasur-Patiala Gharana for the nextgen vocalists. He is none other than Padma Bhushan Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan whose 52nd Remembrance Day falls today, the April 25th.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 22
—————————————————————————

This day ten year ago (23 april 2010) was long long ago and it was an entirely different kind of world those days. Those were the days when people were supposed to go for work and that too on time. 🙂 You were questioned if you were late for work. 🙂

Now a days, we have to prove that we are going for work and why this work is important. Only people doing “important” work are supposed to go out of work these days. 🙂

I was supposed to be someone whose work was “important” then as well as now. That is a justification why I was postin only two or three posts those days as well as now a days. 🙂

Three songs were covered on the blog on 23.04.2010 :-

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Bhoole se muhabbat kar baithaa Dil Hi To Hai-1963 All songs covered
Mukhdaa dekh le praani zaraa darpan mein Do Behnen-1959 04 of 07 songs posted
Bhalaa karne waale bhalaayi kiye jaa Ghar Sansaar-1958 All songs covered

As can be see from above, two out of three movies represented that day ten years ago have been YIPPEED. “Do Behnen” (1959) is the only movie that qualifies for “Blog Ten Year Challenge” today.
