Roshanlal Nagrath, known to us as simply Roshan became such a well known figure in HFM that the name Roshan become a brand name for his descendents who adopted the name Roshan as their surname.

But Roshan’s beginning were neither auspicious nor successful. His initial movie as a music director was “Neki Aur Badi”(1949) which had failed and a despondent Roshan had considered it as the end of the road for him in his career and in his life. He was consoled and encouraged by Kidar Sharma who gave him further breaks as music directors.

Fabulous Foot Tappers – 3

A name that deserves to be known better, and honored better.  The repertoire of his songs makes one wonder – he should be named in the top ranking lyricists.  But that is not the case.  He had an intrinsic verve of the verse, he had a passion for nationalism and he had trained in classical music under the renowned Pt Ravi Shankar – a combination that evoked such inspired poetry

tere daaman se jo aayen
un hawaaon ko salaam
choom loon main us zubaan ko
jis pe aaye tera naam

ae mere pyaare watan
ae mere bichhde chaman
tujh pe dil qurbaan

Remembering Prem Dhawan on the anniversary of his passing away today (7th May).

Today’s selection is in the voice of Geeta Dutt.  Coming to think of it, it is just these two voices that have the capacity and the capability to make a foot tapper song – Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt. I cannot think of any other female singer who can manage songs of the type we are discussing in this series.  There could be exceptions but I cannot readily recall any right away.

The Voice of Mukesh #65
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Ah, coming back to this series after a long gap, a very long gap indeed.  The last episode of this – “Hum Ne Chakkar Kha Kar Dekha”  was posted last year on 23rd June.  And I am returning to it now, after a gap of more than 10 months.  Before I get to the song itself, let me talk about this gap in the proceedings of this series.

This article is the 11100th song post in the blog.

“Sone Pe Suhaaga”, as we say in India.  First it was the momentous 10K milestone in July last year (20 Jul 2014).  Then a little while ago, on the close of the previous financial year (31 Mar, 2015) we had the auspicious and ‘Badhaai Waala” 11K milestone. And then today, we have the next level ‘1’ added, taking the auspiciousness and ‘badhaai’ to the next level on the scale.

Welcome all to the next important century milestone on this blog.  After we had the invasion of the blog by an army of eleven thousand young ladies, I mean, after the “Gyaarah Hazaar Ladkiaan” made their auspicious and enchanting appearance a little over a month ago, we have added another 100 wonderful songs to bag of magic that this blog is now transforming into. This segment has been relatively slower, taking exactly thirty two days to complete this leg of the journey. Of course we have an excuse for it.  But we are not going to talk about it today.  Maybe someday later, hopefully sooner than later.  But not today.  After getting over with the customary greetings and welcome and congratulations, I want to talk about a friend, a very dear friend.  And in our lingua-franca, the term ‘a dear friend’ evidently implies a lover of music.

‘. . . given a chance, I’d choose to be an actress all over again.’ Closing words in an interview that she gave ten years before she passed away in 2000.  She is the recipient of the very first Filmfare award for best female supporting role – she won it for her portrayal of a young fisherwoman, Mohnia, in the film ‘Baadban’ (1954).

MISSING GEMS FROM THE GOLDEN 50s…Song No. 18….LAST SONG OF THIS SERIES
—————————————————————————
Today’s song is from film Bewaqoof-60. This is the last song of this series. This series has been very interesting and it gave a pleasure of discussing songs from the 50’s decade. Some of the songs were well known and popular in those times and the most others were good enough to provide nostalgic feelings.

Today’s article happens to be my 400 th article on this Blog. I started writing consistently on this Blog from 1-10-2012. Thanks to ATUL ji’s encouragement and active substantial help in writing Lyrics for me,I was able to reach the figure of 400 articles on songs in 30 months. This is an average of about 13-14 songs every month. During these months, our readers from all over the music loving world gave comments of appreciation, which worked as a motivation for me. In this period,I did 21 series of songs on different Themes. My endeavour has always been to present forgotten pearls from Hindi films and side by side, provide useful, unique information on films, songs, singers, composers, actors, directors, production houses, mythology and behind the scene stories.

We now enter the the final year of the 50’s decade, into the year 1960. This was an year full of interesting films in different genres. The most important event of the year,of course, was the release of the monumental film “Mughal-E- Azam “.

We have discussed more than 11000 songs by now. I had not thought even in my wildest of dreams that we will one day arrive at such a figure. My view was that we will have about 2500 songs in the blog and then we will not songs left to be discussed. 🙂
