(Gulzar Saab’s 90th birthday 18th August’2024)
Today 18th August, 2024 is the ninety-first birthday of Poet, Lyricist, Writer, Director and Producer Gulzar Saab. On this occasion we wish him a very ‘happy birthday’ today and also wish him a healthy and peaceful life ahead.
Gulzar was born as Sampooran Singh Kalra on 18th August’1934 at Dina, District Jhelum, in Punjab which is now in Pakistan. Their family shifted to Delhi (Old Delhi) after partition. Gulzar Saab had come a long way since then as younger boy and as a growing youth who had been witnessed to the most ‘bloodied’ part of the history of India i.e. partition of the undivided India into two parts India and Pakistan.

(4th August’2024- Kishore Kumar’s 95th birth anniversary )
In this post I am presenting a song from the ‘1970’ movie ‘Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.
I was on the look out for a song sung by Kishore Kumar before 1970 that is not yet covered in the blog. I came across this lesser heard song, which I think could have been a well-known song. Maybe this movie was not as much successful and its songs were forgotten easily.

(Lyricist – Naqsh Lyallpuri-2)
———————————————————
Today’s song is from the ‘1964’ movie ‘Sarfarosh’. It is a ‘Qawwali Song’ which is my favorite genre of songs. For me listening to ‘Qawwali’ is always exciting and highly enjoyable as they generally have ‘high quality poetry’ in them along with the singing and the music accompanying it.
“Sarfarosh-1964” was a ‘costume drama’ movie directed by Dharam Kumar for ‘United Movies Art, Bombay’. It had Jairaj, Nishi, Jeevan, Jagirdar, Shery, Maruti, Pratima Devi and others. This movie has six songs which were all written by Naqsh Lyallpuri. Music for this movie was composed by S. Mohinder. Asha Bhonsle, Suman Kalyanpur, and Mohd Rafi had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
