Mere khayaalon ka tu hi khudaa

I was aware of a movie called “Alibaba Aur chaalis Chor” (1979) which was an Indo-Soviet Union Collaboration. But I was not aware that a movie on the same well known Arabian tale was prooduced in 1966 as well. This movie , titled “Alibaba and forty thieves” was a Basant pictures Production and it was directed by Homi Wadia. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, L Vijaylaxmi, Veena, Tabassum,David Abraham, B.M.Vyas,Indira Billi, S.N.Tripathi, Kamal Mehra, Kishan Mehta etc in it.

“Dulhan Ek Raat Ki” (1966) was a Taxila productions movie. It was directed by D D Kashyap and the movie had Nutan, Dharmendra,Rehman,Leela Chitnis, Niranjan Sharma, Kanhaiyalal, Tabassum, Mumtaz Begum, Johnny Walker etc in it.

What a find!! Bless this YouTube, and all the scattered music lovers all over the globe. Somewhere, someone is holding on to some fabulous music and then voila, it appears on the net. A song I have been searching for a long time. I am sure it happens with others also; it starts with the thought – there is something one is missing. At times it will pass through the mind, and then get folded under some other thoughts. When I log in online, there are so many other things to look for, that are the significant need for the current series of posts, that this one (and many other such things) do not readily jump to the front line. And then one day, I am searching for something else, when I bump into this one thing, completely out of the blue, and the only expression I can manage at the moment is “O My God”.

“Sunahre Qadam” (1966) is a B grade movie which was produced by Saraswati Kala Mandir and directed by Satish Nigam. this movie had Shashikala, Agha, Sabita Chatterjee, Randhir, Rehman etc in it. With such star cast, the movie deservedly had little takers.

A qawwaali that is true to its art form, a naatiyaa kalaam, presented in the honor of an un-named saint. Apparently, it is a some celebration at the dargaah of a departed saint. The words tell about the divine powers of just being there, and requesting in humble supplication, and the desires and aspirations will be fulfilled.

This is one of those songs that everyone is familiar with whether or not one is familiar with the details of the song. I too have heard this song countless times without being very sure which movie this song was from.

When the movie is called “Afsaana”, one expects to see the famous movie starring Ashok Kumar. This movie is called Afsaana, and Ashok Kumar is in it, but it is not that famous movie of 1951, which was the original movie that had identical twin brothers as well as “separated in the mela” relatives. 🙂 This “Afsaana” in contrast is a movie of recent vintage and it hardly troubled the box office much. Apart from Ashok Kumar figuring in both movies, “Afsaana” (1951) and “Afsaana” (1966) have little in common.
