A few days ago I heard this song on my mobile. There is huge collection of songs, come from where in my mobile I do not know. When the instrument was new, my daughter was trying out all functions in it. She has downloaded many old songs. This has to be one of them. For one born in 1990’s the 1970’s songs are old. I am getting to know what songs are there only now, since I thought to make use of the cache.

Genius of Jaidev
=============
The twelfth gem in the series of ‘Genius of Jaidev’ is from a 1978 film ‘Tumhare Liye, based on the tale of lost love, sacrifice and reincarnation. Produced by Raj Tilak and directed by Basu Chaterjee, it had lyrics by Naqsh Layalpuri and music by Jaidev. The star cast included Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Neelam Mehra, Indrani Mukherjee, Anita Guha, Brahm Bharadwaj, Suresh Chatwal, A K Hangal, Dinesh Hingoo, Pinchoo Kapoor, Ratnamala, Zarina Wahab, Om Shivpuri etc. In spite of the mighty cast of that time, the film flopped at the box office and the excellent music of Jaidev went mostly unnoticed except of a Lata’s song ‘Tumhe dekhati hun to lagta hai’. There were at least two movies called “Sultana Daaku”. One was produced in 1956 and another in 1972.
Kaifi Azmi (14 january 1919- 10 may 2002), whose 12th death anniversary falls today (10 may 2014) was the lyricist in both these movies. He shared the duty of lyrics writing with three other lyricists in “Sultana Daaku” (1956) whereas he was the only lyricist for “Sultaana Daaku” (1972).
