When I saw the lyrics of this song sent by Prakashchandra, who mentioned it as a rare melodious duet, I wondered what was this rare song. When I played this song, I immediately recognised this song as one that I had heard in the past without being aware of its details.

When one is disturbed, there is nothing like a soothing bhajan to calm one’s nerves. The music and the singing of the bhajan has a calming influence on the mind, and the philosophical content of the lyrics makes us see things in perspective. Bhajans make us realise that living creatures (including humans) are mortals and we are mere puppets in the grand scheme of things. Things are not supposed to work out according to our wishes, so we should better reconcile ourselves with whatever is in store for us.

“Chowkidaar”(1974) was produced by Gopal Ralhan and directed by Shyam Ralhan. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Yogita Bali, Vinod Khanna, Jeevan, Asit Sen, Jaishree T., Zebunissa, Om Prakash etc in it.

When one looks at the calender of Hindi movie music, one finds that almost every day of the year is important in one respect or the other. Today (31st march) for instance is the day when Meena Kumari expired exactly 40 years ago. I was a school kid at that time and we school kids, on hearing this news opined that “Paakeeza”, the much awaited movie of Meena Kumari would benefit from her death. And the judgement of us pre teen kids turned out to be accurate. 🙂 What Prophetic kids we were those days! 🙂
