#the Decade of Fifties –1951 – 1960 #
——————————————————————

In this post we cover a song sung by Hemant Kumar from the movie ‘Kitnaa Badal Gayaa Insaan-1957’.

Two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog in the past.

As mentioned by Shri Atul ji in his post while launching this movie on the blog, the title of this movie seems to be inspired from the iconic song ‘dekh tere sansaar ki haalat’ from ‘Naastik-1954’. And the same leading pair of ‘Naastik-1954’ Nalini Jaywant and Ajit was cast in this movie ‘Kitnaa Badal Gayaa Insaan’ again. Both the movies were directed by I.S. Johar.

Today’s song is from a Mythological film ” Usha Haran’-1949.

Hindi films or for that matter Indian films are a mix of various Genres. They cater to almost every segment of Indian society. Some stories are more popular than others and some Genres give surprises. For example, one would feel that comedy films are very popular, but statistics says that Tragedy films too are equally supported by the audience. One glaring example is, the early tragedy films of Dilip kumar ( in which he invariably died at the end ) and Meena Kumari and Nimmi made them Grade 1 artistes ! On the contrary, none of the 3 comedy actors like master Bhagwan, Mehmood or even Kishore Kumar were ever called A class actors !!

For more than a month, I have been coming across short videos (mostly of less than 30 seconds) of a song ‘jaane balma ghode pe kyun sawaar hai’ with young boys lip syncing the song. In some tik tok videos, I have also seen some girls and boys enacting scenes with the song in their own ways. I was attracted to the song as it gave retro vibes of Hindi film music. So, I checked on video sharing platforms as to whether it is filmy or non-filmy song. The song turned out to be from the film ‘Qala’ (2022) which was released on Netflix on December 01, 2022. I also heard the remaining songs from the film which also gave me the same retro feeling.

Hullo Atuldom

Anand Bakshi …. a poet & lyricist who was nominated for the Filmfare Best Lyricist award 40 times that resulted in 4 wins. Poetry writing was a hobby for him in his younger days which became an occasional activity after he joined the Indian Navy due to paucity of time. He came to Bombay to try his luck at writing songs and singing for films. He got his first break in a Bhagwan Dada starrer in 1958; from then he kept getting to write songs every year.

Today’s song is from the film Patit Paawan-1953.

The meaning of Patit Paawan is “one who is purified after having fallen down with sin”. This was used as a Title for Lord Shri Ram because with the touch of his feet, Ahilya-Gautam Rishi’s wife, who had turned into a stone, came to life and human form. However, today’s film is not on the story of Ahilya uddhar. The story is different but the moral of the story is same.
