The Many Colors of Love #30 – The Covenants of Love
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

And so wrote the scribe

kar le dil ka sauda dil se
dil milta hai mushkil se
(‘Yahudi Ki Ladki’, 1957)

The transactions of heart are bound, but by just one covenant – it is the treasures of heart in exchange only for treasures of heart. No other exchange is possible, no other exchange is expected, nothing else in this whole wide world can be traded for the treasures of heart. For those who may want to, or expect to transact this exchange for something else, then they do not understand the true meaning of love.

And this thought brings up this song today. The burden of this song reiterates this maxim –

deta hai dil de
badle mein dil ke
ghe ghe ghe ghe
ghe re saaiba
pyaar mein sauda nahin

For the longest of time, I was under the impression that this song is already posted. And the reason for that is, that the song “Jhooth Bole Kauwwa Kaate” has been around on the blog for almost two years now. Being familiar with the film, one clearly remembers that these two songs are tandem songs, presented on screen one after the other – rather one flows into the next. Yes, true that Geet Kosh lists these two songs separately, but somehow in my mind, I have carried this impression that these two are a single song.

Blog ten year challenge (2009-2019)- Song number 5
———————————————
Today is 8 february 2019. When I looked back at the movies whose songs were covered in the blog ten years ago on 8 february 2009, I found that seven songs from seven different movies were covered on that day. Six of these movies have been YIPPEED by now. The only movie, which still has a few songs left to be covered in the blog is “Gomti Ke Kinaatre”(1972).

“Gomti Ke Kinaare”(1972) was directed by Sawan Kumar for Mercury Productions, Bombay. This “social” movie had Meena Kumari, Mumtaz, Sameer, Rehman, Agha, Helen, Paintal, Asit Sen, Shyama, Chandrima Bhaduri, Tuntun, Daisy Irani, Master Alankar, Randheer, Sultan Mazhar, Manorama, Rajan Haksar, Nasreen, Lalita Kumari, Madhu, Aarti, Kamal, I S Johar etc in it, with special appearances by Jalal Agha and Mukri.

Today’s song is from the film Mahatma Kabir-54.

India has been attacked and ruled by outsiders for centuries. Religions other than Hinduism ruled this country and at times it was feared if our religion will become extinct. Perhaps, from this feeling Bhakti Movement started in India in one part and over the years it engulfed the entire Bharatvarsha. During this period, many saints, teachers and holy figures came up and helped the country to be strong once again in matters of religion.

Missing Films of 1960s – 79
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The 1960s missing films train continues to chug along. 🙂

In this episode, we bring on board a very obscure film from 1964 – ‘Teen Dost’. The film itself is quite forgotten and the songs of this film are quite a rarity. So far only one record of this film has appeared in public domain, meaning only two songs of this film are available, out of the five songs listed in the Geet Kosh.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

I don’t know if anyone has noticed the current obsession that I am displaying. Many of my contributions to the blog in this calendar year have been to celebrate the birthdays of artists who are otherwise called “character artist” or “supporting cast”.

Has anyone tried to visualise what story “The Ramayana” would have been if there was no Dasharatha, Kaikeyi, Sugriva, Hanuman, Vibhishana or even Ravan. Can one think of “The Mahabharat” minus Duryodhana, Shakuni, Kunti, or any of the “supporting characters”? Where would “Sholay” be without Gabbar, or the fate of “Mr. India” without Mogambo. Can one think of “Parichay” minus the cute kids of the family, “Chupke Chupke” without Jijaji, “Golmaal” without Bhavani Shankar; “Deewar” minus THE MAA. That means all stories, be they the epics or modern tales, need characters which are good, bad, ugly or in-between, around the main characters for the story to be interesting.

Today (17 september 2018) is the 19th rememberance day of Hasrat Jaipuri (15 April 1922 – 17 September 1999). Hasrat Jaipuri (and also Shailendra and Shankar Jaikishan) made his debut with “Barsaat”(1949). What a sensational debut it was for this musical team. This team of lyricists and music director lasted for nearly two decades and the team was broken, first by the death of Shailendra and then by the death of Jaikishan. Also, Raj Kapoor, after the box office failure of “Mera Naam Joker”(1970) dropped his entire music team and signed up an entirely new team, beginning with “Bobby”(1973).
