Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 45

Continuing with the ‘Blog Ten-Year Challenge’, we have two movies eligible for the challenge today (30th July 2020). In other words, songs of these two movies were represented on the blog ten years back on this day and these two movies have not been Yippeeee’ed on the blog. 😊
These two movies are ‘Gunaahon Ka Devtaa-1967’ and ‘Mulzim-1963’.

We had already enjoyed a lovely song from ‘Gunaahon Kaa Devtaa-1967’on 22.07.2020 under ‘blog ten-year challenge’ of that day. Today we are going to enjoy a song from the ‘1963’ movie ‘Mulzim’.
‘Mulzim-1963’ was directed by N.A. Ansari for ‘Bundelkhand Films, Bombay’. It had Pradeep Kumar, Shakila, N.A. Ansari, Johny Walker, Neelofar, Nasrin, Champak, Helen, Mumtaz Begam, Uma Dutt, Sagar, Ratan Gaurang, Bihari, Haroon, H. Shukla and others.

On this occasion here is a song from the ‘1977’ movie ‘Shirdi Ke Sai Baba’.

Hullo Atuldom
“Waqt Ki Deewaar” is a 1981 release. It had Neetu Singh, Sulakshana Pandit, Jeetendra, Pran, Kadar Khan, Amjad Khan, Satyen Kappu, Paintal, Preeti Ganguly etc.
There was one other important actor in the cast. An actor who didn’t have a ‘set image’ in Bollywood. He could fit into any role he signed up for. He has played father, father-in-law, boyfriend, etc to Jaya (Bachchan) Bhadhuri. We are talking of Sanjeev Kumar here. Born Harihar Jethalal Jhariwala in 1938, he made his debut in 1960 with a small role in “Hum Hindustani”. His first film as a protagonist was “Nishaan” which came in 1965. On the road to becoming an actor-star who could be banked upon to play any character that he was given, we have seen him play Dilip Kumar’s brother in the 1968 released “Sanghursh” and friend to Shammi Kapoor in “Sachchaai” (1969).

Today’s song is a special song from the film Mirza Sahibaan-1957. It is special because it is almost a 9 minute song – 8 minutes and 36 seconds, to be exact. There is one more-Punjabi- song in this film, which is about 6m 30s long. Today’s song is written by Verma Malik and the music is composed by Sardul Kwatra- one of the 3 Sikh composers in Hindi films during that period ( the other two were G S Kohli and S Mohinder). His younger brother Bhagwant Kwatra was his assistant here.
Sardul Singh Kwatra was one of the very few Sikh Music Directors Hindi Films had. He was born in Lahore in 1928. He was educated and trained in classical music at Lahore. His teacher in music was Sardar Awatar Singh, who was quite famous in Lahore. Later Sardul singh joined Hansraj Behl as his assistant.
