In Hindi movies, the hero is often a small kid in the first reel who then transforms into the grown up hero in the blink of an eye. The kid who plays the role of the young hero shares the same hair style, dress and mannerism that the grown up hero is known for. Thus master Mayur (playing Amitabh Bachchan’s childhood role) would sport the same hairstyle and dress that Amitabh Bachchan was known for, and he would in fact even sing love song for the small girl who would later grow up to become the heroine. 🙂

Movies can be on many topics and it is not necessary that they should all be made on the prevalent mainstream subject of that era. But this fact was not known to movie goers or even to movie critics in the past decades. People would go to the movie hall with pre conceived notions of what the movie should be like and they would be disappointed if the movie had a different story line. There were Amitabh Bachchan movies in late 1970s and late 1980s where movie goers went expecting a dhishum dhishum fare but were extremelyt disappointed on finding that the movie had no fight scenes, and worse, Amitabh Bachchan was shown as a mortal rather than one who could singlehandedly taken on lots of baddies.

Yesterday (15 august 2012) was Indian Independence day. India had attained her independence on 15 august 1947.

By a unique coincidence, the Hindi movie actress Rakhi was born on that very day, viz 15 august 1947 ! Among all the midnight children (as Salman Rushdie would describe children born on that day in his best selling novel of the same name), Rakhi must be the most well known one. She is exactly of the same age as the nation of India !

Greetings all readers, for the celebration of the festival of Raksha Bandhan, or Raakhi as it is more popularly known.

Today is the full moon day, i.e. the last day of the month of Shravan (Saawan) of the Hindu calendar. Traditionally, the monsoon rains have already set in. The fields that were ploughed and upturned, after the last harvest and before the arrival of rains, are now fully prepared for sowing. For the farmers and their families, this is the auspicious beginning of the sowing season – another crop to tend to, another harvest to look forward to. In most of North India, the farmers will start to sow the wheat crop from this day.

Bhupen Hazarika (DOB 8 september 1926) died yesterday (5th november 2011) at the age of 85. A well known name in Hindi movie world for his contributions, he was a legendary figure in Assam. He sang his first movie song at the age of 12 in an Assamese movie which was only the second Assamese movie to be produced. He was a multi skilled artist who has been associated with movies as playbacksinger,lyricist, music director, Producer, writer as well as actor.
