Produced by N.C.Shah, the film was directed by P.L.Santoshi – who also wrote the film’s lyrics along with 2 more lyricists, namely D.N.Madhok and R.A.M. Khan. The cast of the film included Agha, Nadira,Gope,Omprakash, Bhagwan, Maruti, Anwar, Haroon, Krishna Kumari, Indira Bansal, Leela Gupte, Miss Kamal (wife of Maruti), Mumtaz (sister of singer Mubarak Begum) and many others including 2 artists with funny names- Chhota Gope and Bhootram ! For 11 songs, the film’s Music director Vinod had used 9 singers namely, Rafi, Asha, Shamshad Begum, Sharda, Batish, Durrani, Savita Banerjee, Oza and Kamal.

This is the second of the back to back rare song of Asha Bhosle from “Bandagi” (1972). This song is “Bade Anadi Seedhe Saadhe” it is written by Rajinder Krishan and composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
“Bandagi” (1972) was directed by K Shankar for MCR Films, Madras. The movie had Vinod Mehra, Sandhya Roy, Madan Puri, Sujit Kumar, Ramesh Deo, Sundar, Birbal, Shivraj, Prem Kumar, Gemini Balu, Indira Bansal, Shammi, Shabnam, Pandhari Bai, Padma Khanna, Jagdeep etc in it.

Today’s song is from an obscure movie ‘Caravan’1944. This ‘stunt movie’ was directed by Aspi for Ranjeet Movietone, Bombay. It had Arun, Kamala Chatterjee, Rani, Premlata, Keshri and others.
Geet Kosh lists as many as fifteen songs for this movie including one two version song. There were four lyricists in this movie viz. Swami Ramanand, Munshi Aziz, Pandit Indra and Sharma. This film was a “First time” for 3 persons.
First was the producer and lead actor of the film- Harishchandra Rao Kadam himself. He was basically a “C” grade action and stunt film producer. This was his first ‘Social film, which was also his last social film, as he then returned to his comfort zone of stunt films.
Second was the MD of the film Ajit Merchant. This was his first film as an Independent Music Director. So far he was an assistant to Ashok Ghosh and then Anil Biswas. The third was the singer Sulochana Kadam. She acted in this film for the first time. Later she did one more film.

When Atul started his alphabetical series of actresses who have lip-synced to Asha Bhosle’s voice, I suggested the names of some actresses who were missing from the list. I also sent the respective songs. Amala’s name was on my list, along with the song “Step by Step” from Dost (1989). When I asked Atul if he would mind my writing a post on the song, he replied that he would welcome it. This is how this contribution of mine came about after a long hiatus from this resourceful blog.
I became aware of Amala through her first Hindi film, Pushpak (1987). The film made quite a splash in the Hindi film industry, as it was a silent movie released in the middle of a decade that was full of very loud films. I did not have the chance to watch it in a cinema hall at the time. Amala looked quite different from the usual Hindi heroines of that era. In her interviews, she came across as a very sympathetic person who was actively involved in efforts against cruelty to animals. This brings us to the plot of the movie in question.
