Nightingale Noorjehan – 16
———————————–
This is one of the songs, which gives you surprise that it was not already covered in this blog. The song was very popular during her time as well as even now, when ‘Rasiks’ often remembers it whenever they talk about Noorjehan. I had seen the film in a traveling tent theater, which had come to our town. After seeing it once, we used to seat in the open space outside the theater daily at night to listen to the dialogs and especially the songs. If we were lucky, sometime on balmy nights, the door flaps of the tent were opened for some breeze to creep inside, we could also watch the film from outside. In the absence of Radio, TV, that is how I used to memorize the words and tunes of those songs. For months after that, it was almost a routine for me to oblige anybody asking me to sing those songs.

Readers of this blog can rarely guess my whereabouts from the posts that appear in the blog, unless I share such information. Otherwise posts appear on the blog daily irrespective of my whereabouts or my preoccupation with other activities.
I make use of technology to ensure that posts appear on the blog like clockwork. The technology involved is commonplace today but it was not available just a few years ago. I take it for granted but one still must have the right equipments to use them. If I forget to take even one of the tools of the trade with me then that will set me back by several years to the era where it will no longer be possible for me to blog the way I have been blogging for the last seven years and more.

The song under discussion today is from Yahudi ki Ladki-57. It is a duet sung by Shamshad Begam and Geeta Dutt. Hemant Kumar was the music director. This is one of the very few films in Hindi Film History, which had a similar story plot in four films at different times.

Mukesh and his Composers – 5a
—————————————-
In my last post on Mukesh’s birth anniversary(sab thhaath pada rah jaavega), we saw his association with Khaiyyam in terms of his “film songs”. I had said that I would come back with his NFS for the composer sometime later. Though I was cognizant about most of the NFS, I was not very sure of the complete list and hence restricted myself to the film songs. When I wrote that post, I too was not aware that “sometime later” would mean the very next post, that’s this one.
Harish Raghuvanshi ji the compiler of “Mukesh Geetkosh” (1985) sent a mail to Arunkumar sir, to be forwarded to self, with the details of the NFS of Mukesh for Khaiyyam. Details received from such an eminent and authoritative personality ought to be included and presented before I proceed with other composers. Harish ji’s mail was sent on 22nd July itself, but because of my preoccupations (honestly, it includes lethargy) this post got delayed for two weeks.

Today’s song is perhaps the first ever song of S D Batish that I am discussing here. Not that I avoided his songs or his songs were not good enough for me, but may be all his popular songs were already discussed here by others and I just did not get any of his songs for my purpose. It is purely a coincidence. Actually, I have lot of respect for S D Batish, who did a marvellous job of promoting Indian Music in UK and USA. He is one of the rare people who left the film world, but continued serving the Music by turning a corner in his life.
