Does the name Sunil Sikanderlal Kapoor ring a bell in our minds? No? But if I say “Nandu, sabka Bandhu”, will that help us to identify the person I am talking of? I think the answer will be yes, by some of the regulars in the blog. Now one more famous line from this actor—“main crime master GO-GO, ankhen nikal ke goti kheloonga”. I can quote so many of his dialogues that I will stop here or the readers will say –“Samajhta nahin hai yaar” (she is boring us). Now I am sure that all of you would have come pretty close to identifying the actor who celebrated his 58th birthday yesterday (3rd September).

Our film industry is is not a level playing field for artists, that is for sure ! There were actors, directors, composers and singers who became famous. At the same time there were many ‘not so famous’ artists in all categories. But the largest group of artists are those who can be clubbed together as ‘unknown or less known’ artistes. The industry got enriched with the contributions of all these categories of artists. The ‘Famous’ artists may be 20%, the ‘Not so famous’ may be 30%, but the ‘Unknown or less known’ artistes must be 50% of all the artists in the industry.

Normally, a music director superbly composing smooth, not noisy, but melodious tunes with Indian classical music base, Jaidev has composed a western music based foot tapping song as well. May be it was the demand of the film scenario!! And who is among the more adept artists to sing such songs? Asha, of course. So here it is a song from Jaidev in the voice of Asha but in an entirely different style. Just compare this to the previous posted song of Asha from the same film, same lyricist and by the same music director.

Today, the 4th of August, is a day we celebrate as the birth anniversary of one of Hindi film industry’s undoubted geniuses, Kishore Kumar.
The term “genius” tends to get thrown around rather loosely and frequently nowadays, much like terms like “legend” and “great”. This is all the more reason why I am rather cautious when I use it and certainly don’t throw it around.
Having said that, I have absolutely no hesitation in using it for Kishore Kumar (or Kishoreda as he is fondly referred to by his friends and fans). Kishore da was one of those rare individuals who tried his hand at many dimensions of the industry – and left a mark with most of them. In a sense, he can be called a true harfan maula of the industry.

The name of Sindbad will remind you the storybooks we have read in our childhood. Sindbad, Allauddin, Alibaba, Birbal-Akbar, Haatimtai, Gulebakavali, Vetal Pachhisi and many such books have entertained the growing children for many generations in the past. As has been mentioned in the earlier posts of the day, today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. One single article was posted on the first day of the blog in 2008. The blog remained one song a day blog for the first forty days and then we began to post several articles every day. Today, seven year later, the blog has well over elevent thousand songs. If one takes an average, it turns out to be an average of 4.5 songs per day. Come to think of it, maintaining this daily strike rate for seven years is quite an achievement.
