Hullo Atuldom

India is celebrating the 75th year of its Independence. Mumbai based Rajshri productions and distribution company is also celebrating its 75th year.

I am sure we have many knowledgeable followers in the blog who will give us information on how Rajshri took to making critically acclaimed films that were also commercially successful. Most of their films had stories that stressed on values, family ties, unity etc. and provided opportunity for family outings. I recall a cinema hall in Chembur, Mumbai was decked up, almost like a wedding hall, when Rajshri’s ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ was released and all of the outfits worn by its characters became a rage at that time.

# 1983 Songs – Century Celebrations # Debutant Movie- “Woh Saat Din”
—————————————-——————————

Regulars on the blog must be aware of my love for the year 1983. It was an important year of my life as I had appeared and successfully passed the Board exams for standard 10th that year. And the other important and unforgettable happening of the year was India winning the World Cup of Cricket in that year.

There were many other things also but here we come back to our most favorite topic i.e. Hindi films.

With this post we add one more movie from the year ‘1973’ on the blog which was so far missing from the blog.

This movie is ‘Bindiyaa Aur Bandook-1973’. It seems to be one of the lesser known movies of its time to me.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Debutant Movie – Heera Aur Patthar-1977)
——————————————-——————————

In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Heera Aur Patthar-1977’. I came across this movie while looking for songs of some other movie. The name of this movie doesn’t ring any bells for me and when I checked for its songs none of them seemed familiar to me. I do not remember any song associated with the name of this movie. May be this movie was a lesser known or less successful movie of its time. The movie has the pair of Shashi Kapoor and Shabana Azmi of the hit movie ‘Faqeeraa-1976’, but the pair failed to create the same success for the makers of “Heera Aur Patthar”.

‘Saathiya’ (2002) was produced jointly by Yash Raj Films and Madras Talkies (of Mani Ratnam). It was a remake of Mani Ratnam’s super hit Tamil film,’Alai Payuthey’ (2000) with Madhavan and Shalini in lead roles. ‘Saathiya’ (2002) was directed by Shad Ali (son of the new wave film maker, Muzaffar Ali and his ex-wife Subhashini Ali), his first film as a director. Before getting the independent assignment as a director, Shad Ali had done apprenticeship under Mani Ratnam for 4 years. He was Assistant Director to Mani Ratnam in ‘Dil Se’ (1998) and the Associate Director for ‘Alai Payuthey’ (2000).

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Missing movies of 1973-15)
——————————————-——————————

Today we get introduced to another ‘missing movie’ from the year ‘1973’ on the blog. This movie is “Kashmakash”.

I was aware of this title but I never got a chance to watch it. I think that this movie was not a successful movie and moreover it was meant for ‘Adult’ audience only so there was no possibility of watching it for me even after a gap of many years thereafter 🙂

‘Ankur’ (1974), the first Hindi feature film made by Shyam Benegal gave push to the movement of new wave films (also called as the parallel cinema) in Hindi film industry. Perhaps, it was the first Hindi parallel film, that too in a rural setting, which became a commercial success. His next two films, ‘Nishant’ (1975) and ‘Manthan’ (1976) was also based in rural setting, and they were also commercially successful. Shyam Bengal had made some more such films like ‘Kondura; (1980), ‘Aarohan’ (1982), ‘Susman’ (1987) etc which were critically acclaimed. But these latter films did not receive the same reception from the film audience as his first three films.
