“Omar Khayyam” (1946) is a K L Saigal movie that I was not aware of. This movie had K L Saigal,Suraiyya,Leeta,Wasti,Shakir, Madan Puri, Suraiyya, Benjamin etc in it.

I have mentioned it that drunkard songs, in which an actor is seen getting drunk and singing asong is mainly a preserve of male actors. On the other hand, a woman getting drunk and making a spectacle of herself is considered rather unheard of. That is why one rarely finds songs in which female actors are seen singing drunkard songs.

Early 1970s had seen some non mainstream movies made on “bold” subjects. The movie watchers, as well as the movie critics were not mature enough to appreciate these movies. These movies were badly panned by the critics and such movies flopped. “Dastak”, “Chetna” and ‘Do Raahaa” were a few such movies.

When one thinks about a drunkard going past a deserted street at night, then what Mukesh song appropriate to the occasion occurs to one’s mind ? Is it Zindagi khwaab hai (Jaagte Raho) ? This song was picturised on Motilal, who was a distant relative of Mukesh.
