Missing Films of 1960s – 97
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Goodness, what a lovely duet this one is. The film is ‘Sampooran Teerath Yatra’ from 1970. I have heard of this film earlier, but never did get an opportunity to listen to its songs. As I planned to bring this film on board in this series, I was checking out the songs of this film. And when I played this duet, I am verily bowled over by the sweetness of this composition.

The Many Colors of Love #30 – The Covenants of Love
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

And so wrote the scribe

kar le dil ka sauda dil se
dil milta hai mushkil se
(‘Yahudi Ki Ladki’, 1957)

The transactions of heart are bound, but by just one covenant – it is the treasures of heart in exchange only for treasures of heart. No other exchange is possible, no other exchange is expected, nothing else in this whole wide world can be traded for the treasures of heart. For those who may want to, or expect to transact this exchange for something else, then they do not understand the true meaning of love.

And this thought brings up this song today. The burden of this song reiterates this maxim –

deta hai dil de
badle mein dil ke
ghe ghe ghe ghe
ghe re saaiba
pyaar mein sauda nahin

For the longest of time, I was under the impression that this song is already posted. And the reason for that is, that the song “Jhooth Bole Kauwwa Kaate” has been around on the blog for almost two years now. Being familiar with the film, one clearly remembers that these two songs are tandem songs, presented on screen one after the other – rather one flows into the next. Yes, true that Geet Kosh lists these two songs separately, but somehow in my mind, I have carried this impression that these two are a single song.

Today’s song is from the film Jungle ki Duniya-59. From the title itself, it is clear that it was one of those C grade films, in which stories take place on the background of Jungle and generally centre around a lost child who is inheritor of a big estate.

This song I am posting is from the 2010 movie ‘Aisha’ starring Sonam Kapoor & Abhay Deol.  There are other actors but the movie focuses on these two central characters.  It is about characters who do sometimes act out of character.   Aisha is a social butterfly, who dabbles into all i.e. baking, yoga, gardening, drawing, shopping, event management and match making.  In between all this she also finds time to jog in the morning and spends time at animal shelter.  Watching polo match is a foregone conclusion considering her upper class background.  Her charmed circle goes for picnics, stays in tents next to the river and goes river rafting to end the evening singing by the bonfire. She even goes pubbing and parties at farm houses in true Delhi style, in between bitching about a New York returned female colleague of Abhay Deol, who is a corporate slave according to Aisha.  Who wouldn’t want to do all of the above, if one was so inclined within one hour 🙂 .

Today 8th March (2019) is the ninety-eighth ‘birth anniversary’ (08.03.1921 – 25.10.1980) of Sahir Ludhianvi. Imagine, in another two years it will be his birth centenary celebrations and we can say that ‘sau saal pehle is sarzameen par ‘Sahir’ ka janam huaa tha’…

Regulars on this blog are well aware that already much has been written about Sahir Ludhianvi on this blog and other sources, and as mentioned by me in one of my earlier posts people are still exploring ‘Sahir’ in their own way. Many researches have been done and still continuing about Sahir and his poems.

Today’s song is a rare song( difficult to get) from film Bhanwara-44, starring K L Saigal.

I have been writing on old films and its music since more than 6 years now, but I have never written on any song of a film featuring Saigal and his songs. I had never planned it that way. Actually, I am also a fan of Saigal. Probably it so happened that I found that there were “better’ people to write on Saigal and I coolly left it at that. Our Sudhir ji has done great justice to Saigal songs- film and Non film- with his detailed and emotional articles. These were lapped up by our readers and praise was heaped on every article of his on this topic. Comments on those songs are a testimony to this.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 11
————————————————

5th March, 2009. As many as nine song posted on that day. Of course, from 9 different films. And guess what, over the years, eight of these films have been yippeee’d already. The films are

  • ‘Shahjehaan’ from 1946,
  • ‘Munim ji’ from 1955,
  • ‘Kaala Pani’ from 1958,
  • ‘Goonj Uthi Shehna’ from 1959,
  • ‘Umar Qaid’ from 1961,
  • ‘Bin Baadal Barsaat’ and ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ from 1963,
  • and then ‘Anubhav’ from 1971,
  • and lastly ‘Raja Jaani’ from 1972.

Except for the last listed film above, all the other eight films that appeared on that day have all their songs posted here. And so the only option left to present a 10 year challenge post is a song from ‘Raja Jaani’ from 1972.

I began “Blog Ten year challenge (2009-2019)” early this year. As many as ten songs are covered in this series so far. Three other regulars (viz M/s Avinash Scrapwala, Sadanand Kamath and Sudhir Ji) have also chipped in with their articles in this series. In this series, we cover a song from a movie whose song (some other song obviously) was covered in the blog ten years ago on the same day.

There were days when no movies were eligible for “Blog Ten year challenge (2009-2019)” because all the songs covered on that day ten years ago had been YIPPEED by now.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 10
————————————————

Today is 27 february 2019. The day is almost over and the first post of the day is just about coming up. Things were much different on this day ten years ago. On that day (27 february 2009), as many as seven songs were covered. Those were the days when I would discuss six or seven sog a day with ease, and a century of songs would come up in sixteen days or so.

Even I am surprised at the level of energy motivation and passion that I used to possess those days. 🙂

Coming to this day ten years ago, as many as seven songs were covered. Six of these movies have been YIPPEED by now. The only unyippeed movie from that day is “Kaajal”(1965).
