Though “Hamaari Yaad Aayegi” (1961) is today mainly remembered for its iconic title song sung by Mubarak Begam, the other songs from this movie are arguably in the same league, even if they became oivershadowed by the Mubarak Begam song.

I had neither heard of the film RISHTA (1954) nor its songs till a few days back. The film was produced under the banner of Rajasthan Productions and directed by Aslam. The star cast included Suresh, Nigar Sultana, S Nazir, Vijaylaxmi, Rammohan, Leela Mishra, Neelam. I could not get anything about the story line or genre of the film on the internet. But from the title, I guess, it was a social film. What interested me to look for the songs from this film was its music director K Datta (Datta Korgaonkar) whose immortal songs from films like ‘Badi Maa (1945) and ‘Daaman’ (1950) had impressed me a lot.

Recently, I came across a rare song ‘saajan tumse pyaar karoon main’ from the film BADNAAM (1952) sung by Lata Mangeshkar. It was written by Hasrat Jaipuri and set to music by Basant Prakash. I always felt that this talented music director belonging to the golden era of Hindi film songs was side tracked by Hindi film industry for reasons best known to them. As a result, during his 30years of active filmy career, he was the music director in about a dozen films only, some of which were joint ventures with other music directors.
