1971 was a year when old order was changing, giving way to new. Many newcomers made their first appearances in this year or thereabouts. Most of them fell by the wayside, but a few of them managed to hold on and later they established themselves in the industry.

I have so far discussed over 4100 songs in this blog, and I still feel that I have only scratched the surface. There are still tens of thousands of great songs that belong here. In fact, many well known songs are yet to figure in this blog. Hopefully, with time, all the missing songs will also appear here.

In the days before the 1930s, the theatre was the more powerful media for entertainment and creativity, more so than the silent movies. The Parsi theatre found its roots in India, during the 1850s, and grew in popularity and influence over the subsequent decades, The early decades of 1900s saw the growth of the Parsi theatre (or Parsi Thiyetar, as it was known in those times) in Bombay. So it is not a wonder that the songs that tell of sorrow, are the ones that sound the sweetest and are the dearest to our hearts.
