Today’s song is a special song from a Costume film of the first decade of the Talkie Films. The film is – Asiai Sitara-1937.
This song is a special song for two reasons. First, it is a song which is 89 year old and secondly, it is sung by a Non Indian. This film was produced by Harshad and Jagtap productions, Bombay. The film was distributed by Wadia Movietone. It was directed by Haribhai Desai. Music was by Master Mohammad for the songs written by Pt. Anuj. The cast of the film included Master Vithal, Jenabai Pawar, Ibrahim, Veena Devi, Minu the Mystic, Master Dhulia and others.

He formed, together with Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, “the golden trio” of Indian cinema in the 1950s and 1960s. There was camaraderie between the three contemporary actors, all renowned for their own style. He was the biggest Indian star of this era, a national icon, holding the status of a matinée idol. He was the country’s highest-paid actor during this period.
I don’t need to mention that we are reading about the idol of many actors who made their debut in films post the 1960s- Dilip Kumar who was born Muhammad Yusuf Khan in Peshawar, which is presently in Pakistan. He is said to have been childhood friends with Raj Kapoor who grew up in the same neighbourhood.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
Chandrashekhar Vaidya (known to film audiences as Chandrashekhar) was born on July 7, 1922 in Hyderabad (which is now in Telangana) India.
He also produced, directed, and acted as the lead hero in his hit musical film ‘Cha Cha Cha’ (1964), which was the first film of Helen in a lead role. ‘Cha Cha Cha’ is one of the films featured in Avijit Ghosh’s book ’40 Retakes: Bollywood Classics You May Have Missed’. In 1966, Chandrashekhar directed and produced his second film ‘Street Singer’.

Today’s song is from an unknown film -Ankh Micholi-1942. Unknown does not mean it is not mentioned anywhere, but it only means that it was not known to most people. It is slightly lesser than ” less known’ films.
In 1940, after the film Kumkum the dancer, starring Sadhona Bose, the establishment of Sagar movietone was wound up and it was merged lock,stock and barrel with National Studios. After 3 films, this also closed down and Chimanlal Desai started his own Amar Pictures. As per Biren Kothari’s book- Sagar Movietone, after making just 6 movies, Amar also closed down. Out of these 6 films, except the film Adab Arz-1943, the other 5 films just came and went, without much noise.
Film Aankh Micholi-1942 was directed by a veteran and a spillover from the Silent era- R.S.Chaudhari. Music was by Gyan Datt and the Lyricists were Pt.Indra, Satyakam and Shatir Lucknowi. The cast of the film included Nalini Jaywant, Satish, Sulochana, Jillo, Hadi, Protima Devi and others.

Today we get introduced to yet another obscure movie from the decades of seventies. The title of this movie is ‘Baghaaawat-1971’.
I had earlier introduced a movie with the same title from the year 1951 in this post. In this post that appeared on the blog in June-2023, I had mentioned that movies with this title ‘Baghaawat’ were made in 1951, 1960s or 1964, 1971 and 1982. The movie made in the sixties or from the year 1964 was introduced in the blog during March 2023. This movie of 1964 is an Un-released/shelved movie made in the decade of sixties. ‘Baghaawat-1982’ was introduced in the blog as far back as in 2013 itself.

The cast of the film included Sardar Akhtar, Amar, Husn Banu, Veena Kumari, Kanhaiyalal, Bhudo Advani and Debutant Actor- Director N.A.Ansari along with many others.

‘Meree Adaalat’ (1984) was produced by U S N Babu and K C N Chandrasekhar under the banner of Krishna Arts and was directed by A T Raghu. The cast included Rajnikanth, Zeenat Aman, Kader Khan, Sonia Sahni, Mohnish Bahl, Komal Mahauvakar, Rajendranath, Shreeram Lagoo, Manjula, Monty, Birbal, Dev Kumar, Raj Kishore etc. The film was a remake of Kannada film, ‘Aasha’ (1983).
