Today’s song is from a Telugu Language film which was dubbed in Hindi and named as Jaisingh-1959.

Till 1947, Hindi films were made mostly in Bombay,Lahore,Calcutta, Kolhapur and Poona. Most studios were located in these cities. South Indian language films were made mainly in Madras and Bangla films were made in Calcutta and Dhaka. The Partition in 1947 changed the picture completely. Wholesale polarisation took place.Producers of Hindi films had to flee from Lahore, leaving everything behind them and some artistes from Bombay left for Pakistan. Thus, after Partition, the exclusive centre for production of Hindi films was only Bombay. By 1950 things settled in India and Pakistan Film Industry.

Today’s song is from the 1977 movie ‘Solah Shukravaar’.

I was under the impression that this movie is already available on the blog, but it’s not the case. So, today we get introduced to this movie and it makes its debut on the blog.

It seems that this movie was inspired by the huge success of the movie ‘Jai Santoshi Maa-1975’. However, I do not remember this movie and either its songs.

“Pyaar Hi Pyaar” – release date 17th October 1969- was directed by Bhappie Sonie and produced by Rajaram & Satish Wagle. It had music by Shankar-Jaikishan & Hasrat Jaipuri wrote most of the songs. Rajinder Krishan is credited with one song. The movie had a cast of Vyjayanthimala, Dharmendra, Manmohan, Mehmood, Helen, Dhumal, Madan Puri, D.K. Sapru, Sulochana -Latkar & Chatterjee, Raj Mehra AND PRAN. Plus there were some character artists who are familiar faces to all Hindi movie fans- like the rotund Moolchand, Robert (the Goan dancer who was a prominent face in dance numbers till 1989), even Shatrughan Sinha and Salim Khan (who later formed a duo with Javed Akhtar) were there in small roles.

Films with “Ek” in their title that are present on the blog:- 66 and in that list I found some titles have been repeated too like “Ek Gaon Ki Kahaani”; “Ek Hi Rasta” (3 times); amazing.

“Ek Se Badkar Ek” (1976) is one of the 66 on the blog. It was a movie produced & directed by Brij. It had Kalyanji-Anandji as music directors of songs written by Verma Malik. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi., Lata Mangeshkar and Runa Laila (from Bangladesh) were the playback singers used. The multi-starrer had Ashok Kumar, Raj Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol, Anwar Hussain, Padma Khanna, Helen, David, Deven Verma, Purnima, Shetty etc in the cast.
Today I found a trivia about how Deven Verma was present in many movies made by Brij- Brij was the director of Deven Verma’s first production “Yakeen” and that association continued in films like “Chori Mera Kaam”, “Bombay 405 Miles” etc.

Today’s song is from the film Rasilee-1946.

In India, the Talkie film was born in 1931. Next 19 years were the Film Industry’s Teen years when it was shedding its limitations, trying new ways, learning the right things, expanding rapidly, making films considering the likes of the audience and achieving a status of a lovable, attractive and one of the most wanted industries to work for. The film industry entered its Adulthood in the early 50’s when the ” Golden Age of Music” enchanted the people of the world.

Hullo Atuldom

Two Indian actors were born in 1938 one in Calcutta and another in Surat. Both had their first movies around 1960/61. But their first film together happened sometime in 1977/78. “Mukti” (1977) was perhaps the first time they acted together. I am speaking of Shashi Kapoor (18th March 1938) & Sanjeev Kumar (9th July 1938), post which they were seen in 9/10 movies, the last of which released in 1989. I discovered this movie just before I began writing this post. The print that is available online is not very good but it gives a fair idea of the film.
