Today’s song is a special song for several reasons. The first reason is that with this song posted today, film Memsaahib-56 completes all the songs on this Blog. Secondly This song is shot on Meena Kumari, who, for a change, can be seen in a very jolly, smiling and joyous mood. She is also in western outfits. This is a film, before she put on lot of weight at wrong places, and to hide it, she was always dressed in sarees with long sleeve blouses. The third and most important reason is, this film song video shows many pets, like Cats, Dogs and Birds. I am sure, Atul ji will like this song very much. Meena Kumari is probably celebrating the birthday of one of her pets. This is also one of the rare films of composer Madan Mohan,in which almost all songs had become popular.

Genius of Jaidev – 26

Out of Ten songs of 1957 film ‘Anjali’, Seven, including this one, will be covered now. One more Asha solo and one humorous song by S Balbir and Vinod Desai are already in line. I was fanatically looking for a song ‘Lo chori pakadi gayee’ by Asha, Meena and Usha from one musical family along with Sudha Malhotra. (later on she became ‘Motwane’) And ‘Whoopieee …’ Sudhir-ji promssed me that song, so with these three now pending songs, all the songs of ‘Anjali’ will be covered soon. (Hari Ichchha Baliyasi.).

Today’s song is from the film Lajawab-50. It is sung by Anil Biswas, Lata and Binapani Mukherjee, with chorus. It is a lovely,rhythmatic,foot-tapping song and clearly shows the unmistakable stamp of the composer Anil Biswas. He was hailed as one of the most original, revolutionary and experimental composer, even dubbed as “The Bhishma Pitamaha” of HFM.

Today’s song is from film Hangaamaa-52. It is sung by Lata, Chitalkar and Rafi. It is a very lilting and melodious song. Finding such songs still uncovered in this Blog underlines a fact that there is still a hugh treasure out there in the realms of Old Hindi Film Songs which is yet to be tapped and brought to light.

Genius of Jaidev – 25
———————————-
In this series, we are trying to cover all the songs from 1957 film ‘Anjali’, which happens to be Jaidev’s third released film. Prior to this, he had only one released film in each of the prior two years; 1955 – ‘Joru Ka Bhai’, and 1956 – ‘Samundari Daku’. Not at all a successful entry in film music world. He had to wait till 1961 and the film ‘Hum Dono’ to be recognized as a great composer, capable to catch attention of classes and masses. However, to the true good music lovers (including me), all of his tunes right from his first film are gems.

The decade of the 50s and the 60s clearly belonged to Johnny Walker. From 1951 to 1969, JW worked in 142 films – an average of 6 films per year. This means, every 2 months a JW film was released. This is a very high average, which I feel many leading stars also must have found difficult to achieve for successive years. There must be very few to get this number. In the year 1955 alone his 17 films were running at a time in theatres ! In the period 1970 to 1989 he did only 42 films, which averages to almost just 2 films a year.

Does the name Sunil Sikanderlal Kapoor ring a bell in our minds? No? But if I say “Nandu, sabka Bandhu”, will that help us to identify the person I am talking of? I think the answer will be yes, by some of the regulars in the blog. Now one more famous line from this actor—“main crime master GO-GO, ankhen nikal ke goti kheloonga”. I can quote so many of his dialogues that I will stop here or the readers will say –“Samajhta nahin hai yaar” (she is boring us). Now I am sure that all of you would have come pretty close to identifying the actor who celebrated his 58th birthday yesterday (3rd September).
(Note: The article was received in good time yesterday, but could not be posted in time. 🙂 )
