Missing Films of 1960s – 83
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
A delectable discovery, this wonderful duet of Asha ji and Usha ji. And one more film of the 1960s gets added to our blog today.
‘Tarzan 303’ – I was not even aware of this film before I started working on this series. And even now, no information is available, except what is there in the Geet Kosh. Indian film producers have a set fascination for the theme of Tarzan. From 1931 to 1980, no less than 15 films have been produced which contain ‘Tarzan’ in their title. And there probably are some more after 1980 also.

Mohammed Rafi – Duets – ‘अ’ से ‘ह’ तक (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 27

Knowing it is futile – no one returns from where you have gone. But still, the heart knows no other emotion. And so we will wait, till whenever we can.

This duet song from the 1962 film ‘Rooplekha’ is a real treat. It is vintage Rafi, sung with that signature ‘खुमारी’ and ‘मस्ती’, the inimitable flavors of sounds that only Rafi Sb could render. When I came across this song while searching for a duet of Rafi Sb starting with ‘म’, I was quite excited. The emotion that ran through my mind was the oft represented thought – how come this song is not yet on the blog. Quite a popular favorite from the radio listening days, it is a wonder that this gem has kept away from our blog. And not that this film is new here – already two songs of this film are showcased here. Both solos, one is a wonderful treat from Suman Kalyanpur – “Tu Ne Chura Li Mere Maathe Ki Bindiya” and a bhajan in the voice of Rafi Sb – “Bahjan Bina Baawre”.

Welcome all to this article which comes after my last post on 13th October in Remembrance of Kishore Kumar. In between I was supposed to send couple of articles which I could not do because of the project work now in full swing at site and we have to sometimes work for extended hours too. I was also trying to finish two of my earlier posts which got stuck up due to the same reason and then even though they were in my mind I was trying to get back to the rhythm to re-start and complete them.
Our Peevesie’s Mom generally mentions about the anniversaries of the artists and she also tries to keep sending posts for such occasions and simultaneously she also tries to combine anniversaries of various artists and anniversaries of our team members too. 🙂 Her last post on the blog was for celebrating our beloved Raja Saab’s birthday and of Raveena Tandon too.
The reason for today’s post is also a birth anniversary occasion which we missed and which even I was not aware till yesterday.

The Hindi film industry has seen many legends in its 100+ years of existence. Giants in their chosen field, revered by not just their generation but by generations that followed. They have a very fond place in the hearts of film lovers, who are eternally thankful for their immense contribution to cinema. They all recognise the the world of cinema would be much the poorer without this contribution.
One such legend, and one who probably elevates the worth of the term “legend”, is, without doubt, yesteryear poet and lyricist, Sahir Ludhianvi.
Today (25 october 2018)happens to be his death anniversary – and, as we’ve done on previous occasions, we pay our humble tribute to him today.

Today’s song is from a comparatively less known film, ‘Prem Sangeet’ (1943). It was produced and directed by WZ Ahmed, under his own banner, Shalimar Pictures, Poona. The music was by its resident MD SK Pal aka Suryakant Pal (nephew of MD Ramchandra Pal, who was with Bombay Talkies). The lyricist was Bharat Vyas. The cast of the film was Neena, Jairaj, H Prakash, Shanta Thakkar, Rajkumari Shukla, Tiwari, Anwar, Gulab, Randhir and many more. The song is sung by Bharat Vyas and Shanta Thakkar.

Missing Films of 1960s – 81
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Today, I am introducing a film that is significant in a certain way. The film is ‘Veer Ghatotkach’ from 1970. The role of the main protagonist – Veer Ghatotkach – is played in this film by Master Chandgi Ram. Folks who are familiar with the domestic Indian style wrestling and follow this sport, will be familiar with this name. Master Chandgi Ram was a regular pehalwaan and a wrestler of the first grade, in the Indian style wrestling sport, during the 1960s an 70s. Prior to him, the wrestler who was considered to be the no. 1 and the champion, was Dara Singh. As Dara Singh phased himself out of the wrestling sport during the mid 1960s, the fortunes of Master Chandgi Ram took quite an upswing.

A real life funtoosh, if ever there was one. So many anecdotes from his real life are told – and they read like a story writer creating script for comic scenes.
Like the fact that he had a sign that said ‘Beware of Kishore’ on the door of his Warden Road flat – once HS Rawail came to visit him, and offered his hand for a handshake, and Kishore took his hand and bit it; when Rawail asked him why he did that, Kishore pointed to the sign on the door saying – “Didn’t you read this. . .”.
