“Pehli Raat” (1959) was a Pushpa Pictures Production. It was produced by A A Nadiadwala and directed by P L Santoshi. Genius of Jaidev
=============
Four songs from the 1977 film ‘Alaap’ has been already posted in this blog. this one second in my series will be the fifth one. I am not repeating the details of that film here, but will describe the scene depicted in the presentation.
Tawayaf Sarjubai, acted by Chhaya Devi, sings a soulful bandish in Raag ‘Desh’. She is remembering, in flashback, the pain of a prince of some state, Rajasaheb, acted by Sanjeev Kumar, who had just lost his beloved wife. Many tawayafs were patronized by princes for their singing talents during that period.
Jaidev , unlike the MDs of that era, utilized unknown or rarely heard singers as far as Hindi films are concerned. This duet is by two performing artists, Fayyaz (well known Marathi stage artist) and Bhupinder. (well known non-film gazal singer) I am sure this song will bring tears in the eyes to the sensitive souls and lovers of good music. May I invite you all to listen to this creation and wet the eyes with me?
PS-The audio of the solo version of the song is now uploaded by Sudhir ji alongwith the Devnagri lyrics. The two versions are identical except for one extra line repeated in the duet version at the end.

“Jagbeeti” (1946) an extremely obscure movie by any standard, was produced by Din pictures and it was directed by M Sadiq. The starcast of the movie, as mentioned in YT is Sadiq Ali, Suraiya, Sulochana Chatterjee, Shakir, Himalayawala, Ibrahim, Gulam Hussain, Mohd.Hussain, Nalini, Shalini etc.
