On this 1st October 2021, I am completing 9 years of my blogging here. My first post was published on this Blog on 1-10-2012. It was on the film Savitri-1937. Since then in the last 9 years I have been continuously writing here and elsewhere. Though my writings are also published on several other Blogs and sites, my main favourite place is this one only.

With passage of time, we in this blog have become sedate and relaxed, as befits people who have matured (read aged). 🙂 Things that we found exciting in the past fail to enthuse us any longer. The sense of keen anticipation is no longer there. People in the past would begin to think and talk in advance about forthcoming important blog events. That is no longer the case.
Take the case of Blog Century posts. This regular event used to be a keenly anticipated event in the past, even when such an even used to occur once every fortnight. Today, this event has become more rare and happens once in two months (or more), and yet goes largely unnoticed.

Most of us are familiar with this lovely song ‘ham dono milke kaaghaz pe dil ke chitthi likhenge, jawaab aayegaa’ from the movie ‘Tumhaari Kasam-1978’. This song used to be played frequently on radio when I was growing up(going by the release date of the movie I was just above ten years of age then).

01/10/2020 – 101st Birth anniversary of Majrooh Sultanpuri.
—————————————————————————-
Mujh se kaha jibrayil e junoon ne ye bhi vahi-e-ilaahi hai
Mazhab to bas mazhab-e-dil hai baaqi sab gumraahi hai
The Angel(of obsession) tells me that this too is divine decree,
The religion of love is the faith, rest all is deception
Dekh zindaan se pare, rang-e-chaman josh-e-bahaar
Raqs karna hai to phir paaon ki zanjeer na dekh
Look far away from the dungeons, towards the colourful garden and spirited spring
Want to dance (fly), than don’t be bothered by the limitation of feet.
Bahaane aur bhi hote hain zindagi ke liye
Ham ek baar teri aarzu bhi kho dete
There could be other reasons to live
Had the hopes of you been lost.
Jafaa ke zikr pe tum kyun sambhal ke baitth gaye
Tumhari baat nahi baat hai zamaane ki

Today’s song is from film Patrani-1956. It was a Prakash Pictures’ film, produced by Shankarbhai Bhatt-the elder brother and directed by Vijay Bhatt, the younger brother. The music was by Shankar-Jaikishen (S-J). Songs were written by Shailendra (9) and Hasrat Jaipuri (1).
In my last post, I had talked about songs from the 50’s decade, especially songs from Shankar-Jaikishen films of this decade. I was determined to discuss such songs from Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50’s, so I started scanning each of their films made in the 50s. From 1951 to 1960, Shankar-Jaikishen gave music in a total of 41 films. First, I made a list and then revised it to an alphabetical list. That way, it would be easier for me to check songs from every film, from the Blog’s ” List of songs-moviewise”. Before starting, I went through the list once again and my heart sank. Looking at the titles of the films, I was afraid that most films must have already been ‘ Yippied ‘.

Today’s song is from an old film Baaghi-1939. Same title films were also made in 1953, 1964, 1990 and 2000. In addition the word Baaghi was used as a prefix in few more films, like Baaghi Aurat-2000 or Baaghi Sipahi-36 etc .
