As it is, I am able to maintain little regularity and consistency in posting the songs that I so dearly want to. And then there are other factors that keep distracting me and taking me away from my own planned tracks (pun intended 🙂 ). So I get to start preparing a particular song for posting. And then a message will intervene – “do you have such and such song? Goodness, I just need to listen to it now” or a variation is that someone else, very dear to the requestor wants to listen to it. And so, one more draft continues to sit in the wordpress and my hard disk, and completely different song starts getting prepared.

“Kamal”(1949) was directed by Surya Kumar for Hind Kamal Chitra, Bombay. The movie had Surendra, Nayantara, Jeevan, Madan Puri, Mahendra, Lalita Rao, Munshi Khanjar, Bibi Bai, Yashoda Nandan Joshi, Mohna etc. in it.

A sad event that did not seem to gather much attention, occurred on Tuesday, 29th December, 2015. Legendary singer Subir Sen breathed his last in Calcutta (Kolkata). He was 81-years-old. The lovers of film music will remember him for his renditions in many Hindi and Bangla films.

OK, back from ‘Bapu Ne Kaha Tha’ and on to the next available movie in this sequence. Today, I am posting a wonderful song from the 1962 film ‘Manchali’. Ah yes, we had another ‘manchali’, before the more well known film of the same name from 1973 starring Sanjeev Kumar and Leena Chandavarkar. It appears that this film most likely sank without making any ripples, or leaving any memories behind. There is really very little information available for this film.

Genius of Jaidev – 39

It took me A YEAR to present this post today, after the last post ‘Genius of Jaidev – 38’, which appeared on this Blog on December 19th, 2015. After posting two songs by Mangeshkars from 1969 film ‘Sapna’, I have now a solo by Manna Dey. Not having seen the film my guess is that this song must have been picturised on the hero of the film, trying to move away from whatever situation he found himself, in a very dejected state.

So old order changes and gives way to new. 2015 is gone and now we are onto the new year of 2016. Just the change of one day changes the month as well as year. It is a symbolic change that is recognised only by humans. Other species, like for example our pets do not recognise this concept of change of months and years.
