‘Raeeszaada’ (1976) was produced by V L Khare and was directed by Raja Thakur, The cast included Vikram and Zarina Wahab in lead roles supported by Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Rakesh Roshan, Kunwar Ajit (Ajit Singh Deol), Bhushan Tiwari, Pratima Devi, Vijay Khare, Randhir, Mushtaq Merchant, Master Kiran, Helen, Baldev Khosa (guest appearance), Sanjana (guest appearance) etc. I do not remember to have heard this film though I was aware of ‘Raeeszaada’ (1990).

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Five Rifles-1974’. I had presented a song from this movie on the blog long time back.
This is a special movie from my childhood days for people of my age group. I was just above six years old when this movie was released. I must have watched this movie with my parents or elders in the family.
The two things that stayed in my mind from this movie were monkeys with rifles and the iconic qawwaalee in the mesmerizing voice of Aziz Nazan. I also recall reading about this film that look-alikes of Rajesh Khanna and Shashi Kapoor were used in this film.

Sona is Gold. It is a very valuable and costly metal. But Hindi filmmakers did not think so, as films with Titles having the word Sona are only 2. One is today’s film and the other was Sona Chandi-1946. There were 11 film titles starting with the words Sone Ki, Ka, Pe etc. There was one film Chandi Sona in 1977. IMDB details say that the film Sona-1948 was one of the Hit films of 1948.

This movie had Sandeep Kumar, Shreedevi (I am not aware if she is the same Sreedevi that we know), Chaand, Majid Maqbool, Farshori, Swaroop, Shams, Lalitashri, Jyoti, Chandermohan, Revati, Hafeez, Khan, Pritam, Vijaya and others. As per HFGK Vol – V (1971-1980) this movie had five songs written by Javed Qadri and composed to music by Vitthal-Mumtaz. Geet Kosh has left space indicating more songs might have been recorded for this movie. The singers for the five songs listed in Geet Kosh are Manna Dey, Shashilata Virk, Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, and Krishna Kalle.

The film was made by Sagar Film co., Bombay. The cast of the film was Kumar, Bibbo, Sitara Devi, Maya Banerjee, Sankatha Prasad, Mirza Musharraf, Ram Marathe, Yakub and many others. The film was directed by Mehboob Khan. He directed 8 films for Sagar and 1 (Aurat) for National Studios. This film, with a Muslim cultural backdrop, was released on the day of Eid. The film was dominated by grand sets and costumes. The story was usual. Conflict between Kazak and Tatar communities lasted many generations.
