This song is my 12th in this series of Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle.
“Mujhpe Bhi Toh Daalo Ek Nazar” sung by Asha Bhosle, penned by Varma Malik and composed by Sonik Omi.
“Maan Gaye Ustaad” (1981) was directed by Shibu Mitra for ‘Kapoor Films International, Bombay’. It was produced by S.K. Kapoor.
It starred Ashok Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Ajit, Bindu, Amjad Khan, Pran, Chandrashekhar, Rajendra Nath, Sonia Sahni, Devyani Thakkar, Uttam Sodhi, Johny, Leena Das, Jazbel, Peeloo Wadia, Mohan Choti, Rajan Haksar, Rajan Kapoor, Shetty, Murad, Ghulam Hussain, Moolchand, Gurucharan, Bhola and others. R. Gnanathesikan is an Indian musician, arranger, conductor, orchestrator, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist and playback singer popular for his works in Indian cinema, predominately in Tamil in addition to Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. Regarded as one of the most prolific composers, in a career spanning over forty-nine years, he has composed over 8,600 songs, provided film scores for about 1,523 feature films in nine languages, and performed in over 20,000 concerts. He is nicknamed “Isaignani” (the musical sage) and is often referred to as “Maestro”, the title conferred to him by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London. We also know him as “Ilaiyaraja”.

“Agar abhee naa to phir kabhee naa …” that is what I thought on listening to this today’s song. Since I want to see it here on the blog as early as possible, I am sharing it a couple of days after I came across it. This song is from the movie ‘Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978’. The music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. So, this is the third movie after ‘Jeewanmukt-1973’, and ‘Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974’ where the music for the movies was composed by R.D Burman and they were missing from the blog till I introduced them here. I was under the impression that all movies, at least from the ‘seventies’’ where music composer was R.D. Burman have already got represented on the blog. That is why it comes as a surprise whenever I come across R.D. Burman of 1970s that are not yet represented in the blog.

Today’s song is from the ‘1977’ movie ‘Qasam Khoon Ki’ or ‘Kasam Khoon Ki’. This song stood at no. 37 in the ‘annual Binaca Geetmala’ of the year ‘1977’. That is the reason for this post here
Though this song figured in the Binaca geetmala final, I have no recollections of either the movie or this song. The other reason for ‘liking’the song is its lyrics that talks of bringing down the soaring price of gold. 🙂 . I have no idea if the suggestion made in this song can be used to bring down the price of gold. The main customer of gold, viz women too are unlikely to take the suggestion contained in the song any serious thought.

Hullo Atuldom
As students, i.e. during school days, we used to be given an exercise in language class. We would be given a paragraph, story or poetry & asked to read it for a few minutes. There would be a set of questions, at the end of the passage or writeup, that would test how much we have understood what was written. Often the last question would be to give a suitable Title to the writeup. This activity used to be called COMPREHENSION in English, forgive me for not being able to recall what ‘comprehension’ is Hindi & Marathi. These are the three main languages that I learnt in school, that is why I am looking for the word in Hindi & Marathi. Different matter that I learnt Malayalam too in school but I don’t recall having this in my Malayalam question paper.

In Hindi film industry, there are some well-known cinematographers who have turned directors. Some of them had a successful stint as director while some had to revert to cinematography. A few of the names who graduated from cinematographer to director were Nitin Bose, Bimal Roy, Fali Mistry, Ravi Nagaich, Govind Nihalani, Santosh Sivan etc. Some of them worked simultaneously as a cinematographer and a director in some films.
