This is a song where the genius of Kaifi Azmi can be seen in his ability to express complex, complicated and involved feelings in a very coherent and understandable manner. The situation is one where India ( a peace loving country that had no time and inclination for a war) was attacked by China in 1962, and as happens with those unprepared, untrained and unequipped, the Indian soldiers found themselves as sitting ducks on the front.

This song pits Vyjyantimala, a professionally trained classical dancer ( arguably the best ever female classical dancer in Bollywood history- notwithstanding Padmini, Hema Malini,Jayaprada, Meenakshi Sheshadri etc) with Helen, the best known cabaret dancer in Bollywood movies. And Shammi Kapoor has the envious task of acting as the adjudicator.

This song is the title song of the movie called “Badalte Rishtey”. And this song also happens to be perhaps the best known and most popular song from this movie. This song is picturised in a typical Reena Roy fashion, viz it is a song sung by her in a party/ get together, just like Dharmendra used to do in 1960s.Rishi Kapoor and later Jeetendra also join her in singing this song.

Yash Chopra had made a nice and different kind of movie called “Doosra Aadmi” in 1977. Rakhi had played the central character, whereas Shashi Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor played the two men in her life. The first thing that many younger people may notice in this song is that Rakesh Roshan, the father of the present day superstar Hritik Roshan ( but to me the son of music director Roshan) had ample hair on his head unlike the takla that he is these days. Rakesh Roshan was just managing to keep his nose above water as an actor those days, and this movie “Kaamchor” helped his cause a great deal.
