Wishing a very very happy birthday to a singer who has a career of almost 70 or 80 years. I am not sure about the last recorded song by this artist who has been in the public eye from the time she sang her first song, with her older sister, when she was barely 10. But, during the pandemic, in 2020, she came together with many noted artists like S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Udit Narayan, Kailash Kher, Usha Uthup, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam and other 200 artists of India, made a song named ‘Jayatu Jayatu Bharatam’ to make the country unite to beat the pandemic.
Here we are wishing Asha Bhosle on turning 90.

As per Hindu mythology, the Sun god is travelling in the sky on a chariot pulled by seven horses. After pulling the chariot for a long time, the six horses are tired. It is the seventh horse who remains and continues to pull the chariot signifying it to be the horse of dreams and aspirations for the future. In 1952, Dr Dharamvir Bharati published his novella, ‘Suraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda’. I read the novella in full which is available online. The novella is written in narration style in which the protagonist, Manik Mulla narrates to his three friends, three separate romance stories relating to three girls. What is of interest is that Manik Mulla is not only the narrator of the stories, but he is also the characters in all the three stories who loves these three girls at different points of time in his life. As Agyeya said in his foreword to the novella, ‘Suraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda’ is not the one story comprising three stories, but three stories constituting one story. The author, in his introduction, has revealed that during his early period of writing, he was influenced by Marxist objectives rather than hardcore Marxism. Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have worked together in 8 films before they got married in April 2007. Their first film was ‘Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke’ (2000). Just before their marriage, they worked together in ‘Guru’ (2007). In this article, I am taking up for discussion, their second film as a lead pair, ‘Kuchh Na Kaho’ (2003). It’s been a while since I wrote an article for this blog (a long while – the last thing I wrote was “Ae Watan Ae Watan” in 2019). This week at Arunji’s home (2 June 2023), Sudhir ji encouraged me to write again, following in the footsteps of my mother who has been contributing for years. The conversations that day were incredibly stimulating, particularly the appreciation expressed for the blog among movie trivia enthusiasts. Eventually, I succumbed to the peer pressure. I returned home and embarked on a search for inspiration (aka a song) to write about. It was then that I realized Ameesha Patel’s birthday was approaching, and I immediately got to work.

The screen turns to a dark, cloudy sky. There is thunder and lightning. A shimmering disk appears against this backdrop, accompanied by music that has certain magical quality about it. As the background score gently works its way to a crescendo, finishing with a flourish of cymbals, a Greek column-like pedestal, bearing the ‘NH Films’ insignia appears against a smoke-filled screen. Almost instantly a booming voice recites a couplet, with a soft but distinct drum roll accompanying the oration. The couplet goes:
Kya ishq ne samjha hai, kya husn ne jaana hai
Hum khaaq-nasheenon ki thokar mein zamaana hai
The voiceover ends with an emphatic drumbeat. The credits follow led by the opening credit, NASIR HUSAIN FILMS Presents…..

‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ (release date 30th July 2004) is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by David Dhawan. It has a cast headed by Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amrish Puri, Kadar Khan, with Shashikala, Upasana Singh, Supriya Karnik, Satish Shah, Rajpal Yadav, etc for support. A few well-known faces make cameo appearances as themselves. The songs of the movie are written by Arun Bhairav, Jalees Sherwani (never heard these two names) and Sameer. Sajid- Wajid and Anu Malik are the music composers with Anu Malik giving music for one song and Sajid-Wajid having tuned the rest (there were 8 songs with two songs being multi-version songs).
