C Ramchandra – 40th remembrance day anniversary on 05/01/2022

Rafi Sahab’s Legendary Associations – 7
—————————————————-

Rafi sahab sang 80 + songs under C. Ramchandra, starting from 1946 to 1977 beginning with Bachchon ka Khel(1) and Safar(2) in 1946. This is followed by 6 songs in ‘Saajan’(1947), two each in “Khidki’ and ‘Nadiya ke Paar’ in 1948.

Two of the most melodious Solos, which made both Rafi sahab and C. Ramchandra , famous have seen the light of day by this time. ‘These are ‘keh ke bhi na aaye tum, ab chhupne lage taare’ in Safar 1946 and ‘ham ko tumhaara hi aasra tum hamaare ho na ho’ in Saajan 1947. Geeta Dutt, Lalita Deulkar and Shamshad Begum feature in group songs and duets with Rafi in all these films till 1949.

Today’s song is from the film Badi Maa-1945.

No wonder that the word Maa is one of the favorites of our film makers. There were 5 films called Maa and its varieties like Badi Maa, Chhoti Maa. Then there were Maa films with Baap, Beta, Beti, Behen,Biwi, Mamata, Aanchal, Pyaar, Aansoo, Saugandh, Shakti, and Qasam. Additionally, Durga and Santoshi Maa were also made. Almost 30 films about Maa at one place in the index book. I did not try other letters of the alphabet to see more films with the word maa – like Naani Maa etc !

I had earlier shared a song from the movie ‘Himmat-1970’. The title of the song is ‘himmat kare insaan to kya kar nahin saktaa’. This song was posted on 03.11.2020. I had mentioned in this song-post that the song was noted by me long back i.e., in 2013.

Around the same time, I came across today’s song which is ‘agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya kar nahin saktaa’. This song is from the ‘1942’ film ‘Jungle Princess’. Today I am presenting this song.

Publishing the blog century post brings some anxious moments. One has to worry about the song that should be used for the occasion. It also calls for more efforts than usual as far as writeup is concerned.

But once the century post is published, one tends to relax for the next 99 songs. The next century post occasion will not arrive for many months, so I can relax- this is the usual feeling. But sooner or later, even those “many months” are over and yet another blog century occasion presents itself.  🙂

That occasion is upon us. And this post is post number 16700th for the blog.

Songs from Artiste Name Films….Second Season….No. 6

Today’s song is from the film Shakuntala-1943.

After leaving Prabhat Film Co. in 1942, V.Shantaram came to Bombay. He had definite plans for his future. But till the right time ( read-arrangement for finance) was ripe, he joined the Films Division of the Government. Later, when the arrangements were in place, he bought a studio with extra land to start his own Rajkamal Kala Mandir. He selected this name to keep his parents’ names with him. Father was RAJaram and Mother was KAMALabai. The first film he made here was “Shakuntala” The film was based on ” अभिज्ञान शाकुन्तलम ” written by Kavi Kalidas in the 3rd century. It depicts the story of Shakuntala- daughter of sage Vishwamitra and apsara Menaka. It is about her love with king Dushyant.

What is Beauty ?

Everybody’s definition of Beauty is different. It all depends upon individual likings. Some like good eyes, some like long hair, some like a round and attractive face….long nose…good smile… etc etc. Because of this, Shakespeare ended this debate by saying ” Beauty lies in the beholder’s eyes”. In other words, to each his own. However, there are many who go by the majority.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment – Lord Buddha

Thinking about the past events in the life and planning for the future is one of the common activities of human beings most of the time. This, at times, can become a stressful activity during which negative thoughts can creep in the mind. In this process, we tend to lose focus on the current activities. We try to neatly plan for the future based on the past experiences. But not all the parameters of the future plan run on the basis of what was determined at the time of planning. The reason is that there are many uncertainties on the way to attaining the goal. I will give the example of planning my Himalayan treks to elucidate the tyranny of uncertainties.
